Need a little guidance here. 71 cj5 v6. The PO had replaced clutch cable and associated components with hardware store cable and clamps. I ordered what multiple sites state is the correct cable Crown j0992533 also ordered release cable adjuster and pedal return spring. Cable is about six inches short from connection with fork. What am I missing here? I haven’t been able to source 71 specific diagram. Thanks

3 or 4 speed?....can't remember the details, but isn't there two different legnth cables - a 71 would be the longer cable? IIRC, the bracket the cable locks in on the clutch end is mounted to the D18...if its been swapped to a 4 speed, then the distance from the bracket to the clutch fork would be different?

how long is your clutch cable from the end of the threaded section (that the adjuster nut screws onto), to the other end (including the u-bracket that goes into the clutch pedal? IIRC correctly it needs to be just over 58" long...and that was for a T14 - again, not sure how a 4 speed might change things.

Yes it is a 4 speed. The cable is 58 1/4. I have not verified trans type yet.

I had exactly the same problem. I ended up ordering one from Inline Tube - you have to call them and ask for the cable listed below plus six inches. They will charge a little more as it is a custom order but mine fits good and works perfectly. Good luck.

Note: This worked for stock, close ratio, T-18 transmission with diaphragm clutch.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

The stock V6 4spd cable has two possibilities according to the parts book.
994156, for use with diaphragm type clutch, at 58-1/4" long.
994799, for use with finger type clutch, at 57-7/8" long.

Clearly, neither of these is enough to make up what you lack.

I think I would get a threaded coupler and some all thread and add an extension to make your cable work.

The threaded coupler idea works too. That's what I did while waiting for the custom order cable mentioned above.

This morning I installed the advance adapters chain clutch linkage. It comes with all the necessary cables and made the clutch smooth as butter. Might be worth looking into vs spending extra money on a custom cable or buying a bunch of cables to try to find one that fits.

I installed one of these on my 71 as well after I removed a PO's home-built linkage catastrophe. It works great and has a lot of adjustment. One of those simple, 'why didn't I think of that' products.

    from there web site
Note: Chain controller assembly not to be used when replacing a cable operated clutch control!!

Note: This kit will not work on stock 4 cylinder Jeep bellhousing

1941-1971 Jeeps that used a torque tube that pivots off the stock transfer case can use this chain assembly to upgrade their linkage. The clutch pedal & bellhousing arm use rods that connected to this torque tube. We offer this new chain control assembly that removes the torque tube & rods and replaces them with a sprocket and chain. This controller utilizes the stock pedal and clutch arm. It can be easily installed and offers Jeep owners a great mechanical advantage on most Jeeps.

Do you use your jeep off road? I've heard that the chain linkage can be a problem when 4wheeling....specifically, it won't release if the jeep gets seriously crossed up.

Good information. Short term I’m definitely going to use the coupler extension. Thanks all!

Despite living in the Colorado mountains, I haven't taken my CJ 4wheeling, it's more of a (short) commute to work vehicle. But I do snowplow with it, and I haven't had any trouble with the AA clutch linkage.

I have an AA clutch linkage and definitely use my Jeep off road and have gotten seriously crossed up. It has never, ever locked up on me.

So these AA linkages don't work on an F134? The notes on their website seem contradictory. Anyone using the linkage on an F134?
