Dauntless V6. What Percentage?

Curious question. When the Dauntless V6 was available, how common was it? Was the 4 cylinder more common? I'd really love to know what percentage of Jeeps had the V6 during the years it was available.

I don’t know the actual percentage number, but it was very common. Almost all the Tuxedo Parks got the new larger engine for an example.

 

I'll go out on a limb and say 85% were V6 over F4.
I have no facts or stats to back that up.
What wasn't to like about the V6 ?

 

Right, more power, less weight. Really nice jeep engine.

 

I'll agree with Jpflat2a's approximation in post #3, about 85% once the V6 became available.
I remember the dealer telling my dad the Dauntless was being introduced in the Tuxedo Park before the regular CJ5s. He didn't wait for a V6 Tux to be ordered, and bought the "demo" Tux on the lot on June 4, 1965, powered by an F134. I think the Dauntless was made available around April or May of '65, but the small dealership still didn't have one in yet. By '70 and '71, the F134 was a rare option.

I think the oil sender or something along those lines were the least liked about it. The holes were small and can get jammed/clogged easy unless you do your PMs on it and clean the oils when needed. Shouldn’t have any issues. Powerful motor. I think skylark had them

In the year of 1969, there were 8111 V6's made and 12,881 F4's.

 

Well that's not 85%.

 

F4 cleanup obviously....
Even back then they forced dealers to buy Jeeps with less popular options.
It's just one year.
My branch is still strong and firm.

 

That is what I always thought also but I've never seen the exact numbers. For the life of me, I never figured out what the attraction of the F head was other than price. The 225 was way more than worth it. It made a completely different vehicle which was in every way superior. Well in every way excepting maybe a T86AA.
