Tailgate Chain Sides, Which Is Which?

I believe they are correct as they sit. Left side, driver, right side passenger. Then the slight outward bow in the hook is to the outside of the vehicle?

You need to hook it like he has his for the tailgate to be level:


That will only work if the ones in your picture are reversed.

If you hook them the obvious way, that tailgate hangs down:
