Overdrive Shift Levers With Twin Stick D18

I got the shift linkage from Herm for a front-shift Warn overdrive I rebuilt. The OD shift lever interferes with the front wheel drive lever as shown. Is it normal to have to bend levers to make this arrangement work? Could someone with a similar arrangement post a picture of their setup? This is a 1963 CJ5.
    Thanks

    The OD lever is backwards.

I tried it the other way - it still interferes.

Your 4wd lever has one more bend in it then mine does. Causing it to veer to the left.

Looks like your 4WD lever also bends opposite mine.
I guess heat and bend will be the solution.
    Thanks for the posts.

Here is how I ended up. Heated and bent the OD lever and both TC levers with acetylene torch. Sandblasted and powder coated them. The 2 TC levers are actually closer than they look. One is forward and the other rearward in the picture, making the gap look bigger.

I was hoping to take a pic of mine but My transfercase shifters are stock and o/d hugs the Transmission so I can shift 2over to 3direct with one big hand from the dash rearward.

MikeON, I see you have the reverse switch bracket setup on yours. How's that work for you? I picked up a switch a month or 2 ago. Haven't had time to fabricate something yet.

Actually, I will be wiring it up in the next few days. Added the switch while I had the transmission top exposed for the overdrive project. I used a meter to adjust the switch position so the switch would close when reverse was engaged. Then lengthened the leads to make them accessible with the trans covered up again.

    This is what I used:
JEEP WILLYS 3 SPD REVERSE SWITCH KIT
With shipping it came to $40.19. I would likely make my own if doing it again.

I did something similar on my deuce and a half about 10 years ago. Simply used a Tractor Supply push button that is activated by the reverse rod of the transmission. Has worked fine ever since.

Thanks for the link for the shifter boot. I'm going to be counting gear teeth in my D18 today so I can get the overdrive ordered.

Interesting thought. After reading your post I bent my OD lever slightly more leftward. (Used hydraulic press instead of heat so I wouldn't have to refinish it).
When I was a teenager the farmer I worked for had a truck with 2 speed rear end. It had a switch on the transmission shift lever that you pulled up or pushed down to change rear end gears. So you could change rear end gear and transmission gear in one smooth motion. I had thought of using such a switch and a power door lock actuator or something similar to shift this OD, but decided for the sake of time to go with the conventional approach.

Hmmmm, looks like something I used to make back in high school on the plasma cam. :susp:

If you use a push button switch, try to find one that has a rubber weather resistant screw on boot, makes the switch last a lot longer, by keeping moisture out of the switch, Good luck!
