I am restoring a 1968 CJ5 and planning to remove the body from the frame. Can anyone tell me the approx. weight of the body less the nose, fenders and windshield?

Don’t know the actual weight, but had 3 friends help me move my tub for beer. With 4 people it was very easy to do.

I've done the body removal several times (or more) with only two people. Its a little struggle, but not too bad. Just make sure the Ross steering column is removed! Its way too high to lift it over the column.

I removed the body on my jeep by myself back in 2005, using a set of saw horses and some 8' long 2"x4"s. Took out all the body bolts set the saw horses beside the body, laid the 2'x4's beside the body, raised the body with a pry bar, slid the 2x4's between the body and frame and then wedged the saw horse under the 2x4's raising the body up enough to roll the frame out. Now mind you this was after I pulled the engine

500 pounds seems a little high. I took the body off with the help of one other person and I was able to move the body around in my garage by myself. Like others have said definitely take the steering column out first especially if you have the Ross box.

I volunteered a couple of friends to help me lift the 71 tub off the frame just last week. 3 of us were able to lift it over the steering wheel/column.
(Although one of those guys is big enough to eat hay bales for breakfast.) 4 guys would make it easy peasy.

I pull my body off by my self, steering out, by using horses and 4X4's. I think it weighted no more than 300 lbs. tops. I have a "People Picker" 300 lbs. cherry picker from the hospital for lifting People to put them in whirl pool, and that sort of thing. I bought two of them from the Industrial Scrap Yard owned by my friend, and they are Chrome. They are light weight, the mast comes out of the base, and I can put it in my truck with ease.

Can you remove the steering column from the steering box or do you need to remove the whole thing?

If it's the stock Ross steering, the column and box are one piece.
