I purchased some new shifter boots less than a year ago for my 1973 cj5. They are cracked and rotten.

Where does one find quality replacement shifter boots?

    Thanks

New Old Stock (NOS). Or military surplus, where possible. Check ebay.

New stuff is often worse than 30 year old used parts. Avoid Omix and it's kin.

Also there was a thread here recently specifically about boots, if you search.

The Mr. Gasket is the way to go if you are interested in maintaining a stock appearance. I consider the Stronghold boots an update / upgrade.

That shift boot replicates original in appearance but is so stiff it will push stick out of gear. Until the boot crumbles, which takes 10 mi or so. Until Omix and Crown rediscover the secret of rubber I'd avoid any reproduction boots

Hermtheoverdriveguy has a assortment of boots that he is having made by a rubber glove company in Salem,Or. (my town) He sez the quality is very good.Hoping this works out and he can expand the coverage.
You will need to go to the website to see what applications are covered.

Sounds like you've had a bad experience at some point, but thankfully that hasn't been my experience at all with them.

Mine worked great from the beginning and have continued to do so. I felt very comfortable recommending those particular ones.

Omix and crown are very hit or miss when it comes to quality especially for rubber parts. The omix t14 shift boot worked great, wasnt stiff and didnt tear or crack. The d18 twin stick boot on the other hand started falling apart in a couple days.

I was gonna go with that one just based on your recommendation until I read the reviews which some people lambasted the product and some praised it.
I have an Early 5 with T86 trans so the smooth boot is specified, but I think an accordion boot is key.

Something generic to fit a 4" hole with a roughly 4 3/4" bolt circle. The search is on. :study:

I have one out of some Toyota econo death trap from the junkyard it just snapped onto a raised ring in its prior life I yanked it and used the metal ring from the original Jeep one. Bonus it is leather.

I have used NOS military shift boots from the M38a1. These are small and tight on both the shift cane as well as the top of the top shift tower. These should fit the T86 trans being similar to the T90. The quality of the old rubber is superior. I have had one of these in use for at least 10 years, and its as good today as when I installed it.
