F134 Oil Pressure

I think the guy providing the warranty has the last word, FOS or not.

 

I submit that if you are going to follow their instructions, and not run a filter with restrictor and the squirter jet on the timing gears, then you should change your oil at least twice a year. Preferably 4 times a year. On the 4 solstice days, because they give you an already set date framework. You need to be changing to winter grade oils and summer grade oils, anyway.

 

Thank you, Howard. My memory of the layout was a bit fuzzy. But I clearly recall a FSM directive to reduce the timing gear nozzle orifice diameter to improve bearing lubrication.

The amount of oil passing through the filter is actually restricted by a small hole in the center tube of the canister, I believe. This would also regulate pressure in the main gallery.

Same principle but I was mixing up the two.

 

This is what I done with my NOS 134 F Military Surplus motor because a friend told me not to put a filter on it they only filter part of the oil anyway. been on since 07, no problems.

I'll bet they(machine shop) had a couple warranty claims on them ,early on.
So they decided to run no filter on any?(to cover future problems)
As far as no filter, any flat 4 vw guys hear, they had a screen, no filter.
Oil change at 3k miles. They run forever.
Personally I do recommend running a filter! Wait a few miles, to be sure no warranty claim needed then hook it up? If a bypass filter clogs, it's like no filter anyway!

 

I knew my simple question would start a big hubbub At least I know my oil pressure is good. The only reason I brought up that part is I wasn't sure if that would affect the pressure some.

I don't drive my jeep that much, 500 miles a year or something so far and only in the summer. Since it's been restored, it's not driven that much. I'm working up to driving more, just working out all the kinks. But even then it won't be that much.

 

When did you have this engine rebuilt? Everything on the web said Northstar Willy’s is closed up permanently. No website, twitter and Facebook pages haven’t been touched in several years.

 

The engine was rebuild in 08 so the warranty is done now. I was more concerned about any damage to the bearings. I talked to both Midwest Military and Walcks. Both said they run filters and don't have issues. I think I'll install a filter and see what my oil pressure does.

 

I've never run a filter on mine. Just a magnetic drain plug.
