Bigger Brakes On A Cj5

    so.....ive got spare axles from an FC170, it has 11"x2" brakes. any reason i cant take them from the non used axles and put them on a 62 CJ5? the wheels that are on the FC are going on the wifes jeep, so i know they will fit the brakes.

    why wouldnt this work?

    Why indeed? They are probably the same 11"x2" Lockheed manual adjust brakes that the Utility vehicles had. If they have a cable-operated self-adjusters, they are Bendix brakes. Either will fit.

    thanks for the response. i dont see why they wouldnt, but it hate to go through all the work of taking off the 9" brakes and then finding out the 11" brakes are a nogo

    You really want the Bendix style ones though. The old 11x2 wagon style ones aren't nearly as good.

    They'll certainly swap on but they have the same eccentric adjusters as the 9", effective if kept adjusted but need to be kept adjusted if you don't appreciate the thrill of sudden direction changes when braking.
