Weekend Project New Front Upper Shock Mounts

Now that the rockers have been taken care of onto the next project.
Time for some new upper shock mounts.

I love this tool


All fitted and trimmed along with a new to me fender. The disassembly and paint will have to wait for a couple weeks, got to fly out for work.

 

Maybe a silly question, but why the taller shocks?

 

Couple reasons but the main one is that I wanted to move the mount rearward to keep the shock from getting beat up by the tie rod. I had the Bilstein's already, the others were shot and limited my downward travel some. Oh and less unsprung weight, because we all want a better handeling high performance driving machine. Right?

 

I did similar for the same reasons..

Front dump AND saginaw!!! Killer!!

The column is out of a waggy and I ran the exhaust down the passenger side. Keeps the heat away from the hydro clutch and gas lines.

 

I like that, front dump....will have me rethinking it on my 6.

 

The passenger side routing is tight but very doable. I can still get the starter out with ease. You do end up snaking it into the frame rail to get around the T-case. I have no pick of my exhaust with me.

Only pic I have but you can see about where I ran it. Also I don’t have the T-case mount by th front output. The floor does get hot on the passenger side. I do have a heat shield just not a good enough one.

3/16's wall tube on the shock mounts? Nice clean installation! I have that task coming up soon but I'm going to mount the front shocks behind the axle.

 

Yes, 3/16 or 7 gauge

I thought of doing that also. But on mine I would have clearance issues with the alternator,lower radiator hose and where my brake line are routed. So I took the easy route. Although it would be nice to have them mounted to the axle vs the U-bolt plate.

 

For those that were curious here are some exhaust pics. Like I said it’s tight around the T-case but it makes a nice place for the muffler.
