    Hello,
I'm in the process of trying to source a rear seat for my M38a1. I'm not sure how they mount so it's a bit difficult for me to look at photos of seats for sale and determine if I'm getting everything I need to mount it. Would anyone who has one be willing to post some detail photos of how they are mounted?

Also, if anyone has seat belts installed in the rear of a M38A1 or CJ5 can you please post photos of where they mount? Thanks!

Bing or google "images" will have what you want.

Also the military maintenance, repair, and parts manuals are easily available and will be very useful to you.

Lots of info on the G503 forum with pictures in people's albums. I have the parts but have not tried to mount them yet.

Do you have any of the brackets, both welded and bolted, to the sides of the rear inner fenderwell?

John at Midwest Military will have everything you need if you need the brackets, seat frame and probably cushions. M38 & M38A1 seats are the same and fold up nicely against the rear of the jeep. Definitely my favorite, and the most versatile, stock rear seat set up in the older jeeps, IMO.

As noted earlier the G503 site will have a lot of info as will the Willys M Jeeps site.

Thanks for the replies. There are some brackets in the rear. Per the previous owner of the jeep there was a rear seat installed at one point. I'll get some photos over the weekend.
A local guy is offering a Wrangler YJ rear seat for cheap. Much cheaper than buying a proper one. Will these fit?

I found a good picture online today depicting the parts I need to mount the rear seat. I think I need just about everything Seems like an expensive proposition, $250 for the seat frame, $100 for cushions, $150 for hardware plus shipping. A wrangler rear seat would enable me to carry my family in the jeep until I decide it's time to spend the money for a correct setup. But that would probably involve drilling more holes in the tub. We have a few months until spring, I'll have to think about it.

It may be more money, but I highly recommend it. All of the rear seat parts for my A1 were missing and I bought them from Midwest Military. Buy once, cry once. No drilling a bunch of extraneous holes and having things that don't quite fit.

You have the main brackets there. They are missing the spring clips, then there are a pair of half round sockets that mount closer to the tailgate panel, then a pair of hook shaped brackets. From there, the main frame and cushions.
