Really cool old truck. It is so ugly, it's cute. I always liked those Forward Controls.

Like the shop, looks like a Jeep Haven.

Looks like a great project. This could be the tow rig for going to Jeep shows.

my time is free. i have no kids. i have a dog. i can afford it no real big deal, but i cant fathom that much for scrap.

there is one for 4500 bucks that runs and drives in northern WI. with 2 spare doors. i would be both time and money ahead just getting that one if i were to follow that logic. ugg...back to plan A. see what i have and then make decisions.

back to square one. remove the bed. See how the motor goes. Plan goes from there

I noticed the rear springs are outboarded on the FC. Could you get a pic or two of the mounts? I have long thought the CJs should have been outboarded on the rear springs.

They are just a stud mounted on a "L" shaped bracket-no outside support. They seem to work just fine but I think the CJ style hangers are actually stronger. Makes one wonder if Kaiser ever considered a sway bar with the CJ style springs and the wide track axles.

Looks like I need a new shaft for this?
Is there a gear sprocket that bolts up so I can activate the winch?

Man that is killer! Iv been waiting for a deal like that for many years. Id save that old bed heck yeah. got to keep all that body together. Like mustie1 and his vw got to save that patina. If you want a nice one go out and buy one like you said. Dont fret too much about the uglyness just get it structually sound and safe. Itll attract way more attention that a nice one thats for sure and you dont have to worry about getting it dirty.

im thinking raptor liner for the frame. anybody have any other suggestions?

of course, prep and all that will be done first, and done right...

Isn't it great to be able to just remove the bed and work on trans and t-case? That's how I replaced the flywheel in mine. Pulled the bed off in an hour and had all the room in the world to work on the drivetrain.

Thanks for the pictures. The FC's outboarded spring set up is pretty similar to the postal DJ set up, including the springs being mounted SOA. The studs may be unsupported on their ends but if it's like the DJ, the studs go all the way through the frame so they are actually supported in two places- the bracket and the frame. That stud on the DJ, is, as I recall, 7/8" thick and no doubt is forged steel. I'd bet the FC set up is plenty strong and you'll bend axle housings long before the spring and shackle mounts break.

Raptor will work well on the frame. Prep is key. Carry on.

Why is the shackle reversed on this? Normally the leaf springs just hang down this one it's actually up top
