IMG_2056.JPG IMG_2060.JPG IMG_2055.JPG IMG_2061.JPG In my effort to use what's available, I used the hinges off one of my yard sale tow bars to create this spare tire carrier that can still utilize the tail gate with stock chain set up. Pull the lower pins and remove the entire assembly. The stops on the hinges hold it almost horizontal to the ground. Hinges bolt up to the draw bar. Probably done before, but just another thought.

Not to criticize your work, the fabrication looks very well done, but I had one similar to that and it cracked all the welds mounting the angle iron to the rest of the drawbar assembly. That's why on my next one, I bolted to the big bolts in the center.

You know I had a thought when you said you used the hinges off a tow bar to make it. Why not actually use a tow bar with a tire mount on it and attachment/hinges in the rear, then also put attachment points on the front bumper also? That way in case of breakdown you could take the spare tire mount and move it to the front to actually use it for a tow bar!

    Yep.
That's how my spare tire set-up has been for 40 years.
