Nothing that can't be fixed with a drill, tap & plug.

Think the ring gear would have to be removed to create the clearance to get the drill and tap in there (well up through the bottom of course)? Maybe the ring gear is offset to the side enough that it wouldn't get in the way.

For anyone who wants to know what actually goes on with the lube inside a diff when running, this is a pretty interesting video...

That was interesting. Really had not given it any thought other than it lubs the rear end. But now I understand some of the dynamics.

That's it... I want a clear cover... Best way to check the fluid level and condition.

    BTW...how'd they fill it?

Flipped it over & through the drain plug.

    Obviously.

Thanks Tim E for the video.

That showed some really interesting fluid dynamics going on inside. I figured it would be lots of lube spatter and general chaos inside, especially at the higher speeds, but it’s just a uniform triangular vortex running up the side of the cover. Lots of cohesion there.

So—get an aluminum diff cover with cooling fins cast into it for best results. (y)

I just picked up those lube locker gaskets for the diffs so we’ll see how it goes.
