A 1961 would have a willys vin tag not kaiser.

That is a 68 or so vin .

I have a list of serial numbers broken down by month and year at the office. I found it online somewhere. I'll look tomorrow and try to post the link

I found a site that id's the VIN's but there is a big gap after around mid '67. I'm told it was a 61 But I'm not sure if the owner really knows. And he's going by the title. Not even sure if I should buy it. I dont want trouble with the DMV

That Kaiser tag is much newer than '61, and it has pop rivets holding it on. The Kaiser Jeeps (and Willys) used philips head sheet metal screws, so someone has messed with that tag.

I believe somewhere between 67 and 70 they went to rivets. Not sure when. My 67 had screws and my 70 has original rivets. Others can chime in on what they have.

If there are other photos of the body it a link to the advertisement that could surely help with identification.

Does the title match the tag? Does the tag match the frame vin?

My list only goes to June of 1967. It's later than that

A lot of old Jeeps out there are what we call "Frankenjeeps"....pieces of several different jeeps put together into one.
If you can post pictures of the Jeep we should be able to help identify it.

Well here it is corpus derilicti. An online source states that the color is a '72 canary yellow and the interiour was blue. But the VIN suggest something made in mid '68?

    Bowbender I'm workin' on it!

I see a T86 shifter, that narrows it down to only a couple years if I'm not mistaken.

V6 Dauntless engine mounts and T86/w Buick bellhousing pattern puts it at least a '66, and the small turn signal lights in the grill mak it pre-'69. The tub is a t least a '64, having no battery lid in the dowl. The tailgate is '7or '71-up, but thats easily changed. I would be real confident its a '68.
Look at the top side of the passenger side frame rail about 8" back from the engine mount (about the distance back as the steering box on the left side) to see the last 5 or 6 digits of the serial number to see if it matches the firewall tag.

I concur with 68. The dash has a four way flasher layout to the left of the steering column.

As far as the CO DMV - as long as the tag on the fire wall matches the VIN on the title they will take it fine. Its a NO GO if those don't match.

As to the stamp on the frame - I've never seen one that could be read.

You can read mine, if the light is just right and you squint just so - but it's there, and it's right.
