What is the best locker option for the 1971 Dana 27 front axle? I see Power Tracks makes one but for years up to 1970, what changed in 1971?.

    Thanks,
    Chip.

Probably does not need to be said, but the best locker option for a 25 or 27 is a Dana model 30. Then you can pick from several, including more than one selectable.

    What Tim said!
If you want to keep a very high maintenance axle for originality though your best option is a powerlock. There have been new NOS ones on ebay really cheap lately. I believe that any money spent on a 25 or 27 axle is just flushing it down the drain with the rare exception of a perfect restoration candidate.

Agreed, I should have gone that route 30 plus years ago when I restored it. The good news is it has never once given me any problems so I am sticking with it, thought I would put a locker in while I'm reworking the front end.

    Thanks,
    Chip.

I ran open, Power Lock and Lock Rite in my old D27. I liked the Lock Rite best for my purposes, mainly rocks. I think with a properly shimmed Power Lock you would be very happy though, although these are getting hard to find. I also now have a D30 with ARB.

Be aware that a front power lok will significantly increase steering effort if you don't have PS. Also if you have the early style Warn hubs you'll find them difficult to unlock after running in 4WD.
