Does anyone know if original 1978 jeep side steps will fit a 1967 CJ5 ?

As I recall, 71 was when the 'early' stopped and then the new CJ5. So I think I remember hearing that the steps were different.

I used steps from a '74 CJ5 to replace my damaged ones years back. They fit fine on my '64.

No. The steps change for 1976. Almost everything changes for 1976. As Donny mentions, the steps are unchanged through 1975.

Will the '76-up steps fit an earlier Jeep? Likely they will have to be made to fit.

The side supports are the same height. I know this as I asked the guy with them listed on eBay. The earlier CJ's have a hat channel on the rearward side, thus requiring a slightly shorter leg in the back of each side. I've been looking for a reasonably priced set for awhile. The best price I've seen has been $150 from someone on this site. I stumbled into a almost free passenger side months ago and then found a local one of these later 'even' steps I got for $25. But I was ok with it since the driver's side on mine still had the longer forward leg bent up under the tub so I can cut the even leg off and weld my longer one on and be good.

So if you buy the one on eBay, just be aware you will have to modify it to fit.
