Brake Questions

    Reworking several items on my 71, and was close to ordering a full brake kit when I realized I had 10" drums instead of 9". Certainly not going to downsize from 10 to 9, but it seems that quite a few have gone to 11" (?) Parking brake on the back of the TC is pretty well shot, so considering removing it and using a different approach rather than rebuilding.

    I'm not much for piecing everything together myself, so looking for a more complete kit and considering the 11" with e-brake from Brakes to do the rear.

    If I'm dropping that much and still needing to do the front, is the full front disc brake conversion from the same site a worthwhile purchase as well?

    Mainly I suppose I'm looking for some validation that upping to 11" drums on the back is worth it and that the disc conversion from the jeep guy is of good quality. Or is there another resource that is comparable I should also consider?
    (Additionally, are these relatively easy to work on and find parts for when the time comes to do a brake job in the future?)

    I have 66 axels with the 10" brakes on my Jeep, and put all new parts on them. My Jeep is a 134 F head all stock Jeep, with 15" x 7" Ansen mag wheels and standard size tires on it. The 7" wide wheels make it look like bigger tires, but the patch area on the ground is the same as factory tires. My Jeep drives and stops safe. I rebuilt my D 18 with a Novak kit and rebuilt my factory parking brake, and every thing works as it should. What I am saying is I would look at the cost of fixing what is there, compared to what you are planning. I found a set of 11" front brakes complete on this web site and plan to up grade the front when I get around to it. I hope this helps, Good Luck

    I did the disk brake conversion, I would never want to go back to 10" drums. I know 11" drums are better than 10", but I don't think either compares well to disks.

    I have a Dana 30 with disks in the front on my 71, kept the 10” rear brakes and the TC brake, stops on a dime.

    My front brakes are corroded and covered in god knows what at this point, so I figure if I’m in for some, I may as well do it right and improve them.

    TC is in similar shape. I think most of the brake parts are there, but again if I’m doing the work on the rears, I feel like I may as well do the 11”s with the parking brake that way.

    Any opinion on stuff from “the jeep guy”? Or full kits from others that won’t bankrupt me?

    If you want to save money, you can read through the threads on here and piece it together yourself, but I don't know how much you would really save. Herm has a conversion kit, if you do some googling you might find some other kits.

    There used to be R&P four wheel drive, but I think they are out of business. If you contact member Nickmil, he might have sources also, or member Daryl for that matter. Heck post a want to buy ad, there may be parts floating around out there.
