I think you want the one that has a 74 on it . That is what I used. Mine came from a late cj.

The number on the one I used may be a 76. It's been awhile. Will look in the morning.

When you installed the gear did you center the input shaft in terms of travel to the Left & Right? ..............Meaning count the total travel from full stop Left to full stop Right............no Drag link hooked up..........divide by two and turn the input shaft back to center the spool valve at neutral while counting the turns back......everything has to start from there markit on your case with paint.........that should be considered straight ahead steering with no input to the valve for direction..........

Now install the Pittarm facing dead rear and steering shaft from column making sure the steering wheel is also centered..............check it out.

The Number 76 is the series 800 HD 4 bolt gear box that was in many GM cars starting around 1966 and also installed in all of the AMC Jeeps into the 80s still in production today under several different part numbers.....one of the best steering gears made.

I dont remember where i read this but I think the 76 box is flare fitting and the 92 oring.

Just to verify this, the inlet should be the port on the passenger's side, closer to the front bumper.

I really have no idea what a box would act like if the lines were hooked up backwards.

I did none of that, but that's because the pitman arm was already on the gear and I figured it was probably straight. All I did was make the steering wheel straight when I attached it to the box.

My high pressure line goes in the driver side of box. How could I even hook it up backwards, like someone else said, aren't the fittings different?

Well, now we know what would happen if the lines are backwards!

What about at the pump end? Are they interchangeable at the pump?

Yep, I did it all for you guys, now we know.

The lines aren't interchangeable at the pump.

Guys? Am I correct on the routing? That's how it is on my 3b. That thing could be backwards for all I know.

Did you get the whole mess as a unit? Or piece it together from different sources? I can't remember that far back in your build thread, and I'm (supposed to be) working, or I'd look.

I got it as a whole mess of a unit, lol. Meaning it was all taken apart but all there, the old hoses weren't connected. I bought new hoses and hooked em up. I just texted my friend with a YJ and he confirmed his pressure hose is the front hole closest to the bumper. I am looking forward to flipping them and seeing what happens.

Return hose is always bigger than your supply. Same for a suction line.

There should be two different sized fittings on the ps box. Very easy to tell which is which.

My 76 stamped box has 2 different size fittings, impossible to hook them up backwards.
