It's just straight up, extended with a pipe through the removable cover. You could reuse the cap if you want. I just have a fitting on top and a short piece of brake/gas line tubing bent to point somewhat down for a vent. Just drill a hole in the cover and use a rubber grommet big enough to allow for some flex.

Taking a note from the Land Rovers I play with, they have a great venting system. They just use a hose barb type fitting that threads into the case (transmission, transfer case, axle housing, etc) and molded piece of polyethylene tubing that snakes up to a high point, usually engine bay. The tubing has a molded-in 180 degree "hook" on the end so water won't get in. The tubing just snips with a digonal cutter and a twisted piec of tie wire secures them to the barb fitting.
I collect these out of the U-Pull yards as they can be adapted easily to anything, including our Jeeps. They usually charge me about $4, except the time I got 7 vent tubes on one visit. They were $8 for all of them.
