Vacuum Heater Control Restoration

I am trying to restore my original heater control like this one:

Does anyone know where I can get a template or die cut vinyl stickers? Or alternately send the face place somewhere to get redone?

I swear I saw a thread here about it a while ago, but I can't seem to find it.

 

There was a thread about that. I remember it as well. I think the member just got some rub on or stick on letters from the craft shop but, not positive. The pictures are likely gone from the thread.

 

I did mine, used dry rub letters then clear coat. Don't know if I did a Thread on them

I got the decals from a local hobby store. They where Gothic White, Dry rub. Here is a link to some letters, do not know if they are the correct font. I used Woodland Scenes Lettering

I cleaned the cover , primed and painted black. I put the letters on, then clear coated. The clear coat I used was hotter than the black paint, it started to dissolve the black. When I saw this, I let the clear dry and then put more coats on, you might need to watch this. There where no "arrows" on the sheet. I used something on there that was close, do not remember. If you notice the "arrow" it does not come to a point. The lines, in front of the arrow, was something I found on the sheet and made it work. I put some blue painters tape on the cover to give me a straight line when applying the letters.

 

After looking at the pics posted of the controls, I have a question about the fan speed flipper. Mine has a round knob that looks a lot like the temp push buttons. Is this correct for my '71 renegade?
Do I need to look for the correct flipper?

 

Yes I noticed that switch in a pic you posted.Seems those rotary switches in off-on-on like the O.E.M. are scarce. I would like to buy a spare myself. I also need a o.e. wiper knob.Made one on the lathe that's close with out the script ( wiper ) . Also looking for e-brake handle. mike

 

Is the rotary, or the flipper correct? My rotary is held on with a single allen-head, that originally did not bind with the post. I used some de-oxit cleaner lube and loosened and tightened the set screw and it now operates easily.

 

The original were flipper. Here is a picture out of the owners manual

Well maybe different terminology. The oem switch that is used has a stem that rotates with a flipper style knob. Not a toggle or push/pull . What else would you call a switch that rotates? Maybe you just need the knob and still have o.e.m. switch. If anyone knows of a source for switch or knob please jump in here. mike

 

Yes, the rotary switch is there, the flipper (eeek, eeek) style knob has been apparently replaced (or broken and smoothed off with sand paper) with a smooth cylindrical knob. It's hard to grasp with no ribs or knurling to the edges.

 

The best source for the wiper knob is from a Dispatcher 100 postal. They were used at least through 79.

I know there is a set screw that holds the flipper on. Is there a metal insert in the flipper? The shaft coming out of the heater control, I believe, has a flat spot on it , so when the flipper is install, it is keyed to the correct position. If there is a metal insert in the flipper, this may be a issue in remaking them. Might be better off having one machined from some aluminum
I can check tonight when I get home.

 

The flipper knob on the fan switch is all plastic; no metal insert for the shaft or the threads. I have a knob with the set screw threads stripped out. It takes a 1/16" allen wrench, but I haven't checked the thread pitch/size, though it is a coarse thread. Maybe a 10 or 12-24? I'll see if I have helicoils that small.

Folker, I have a couple of shotguns that were make in Yakima.
