Seat Belt Mounts

When did CJ’s start coming with seat belts? My Dad’s ‘62 Corvette has lap belts in it so I’m wondering about my ‘62 CJ5. It currently doesn’t have anything in it now but I wanted to add lap belts. I’ve seen pics of guys adding them to early Jeeps and started to look at mine. I’ve noticed these bolts and they sure look like mounting bolts for seat belts. Any insight to what there for?

Others on here will know for sure but I'd say those are for lap belts as you suspect. My '62 wagon has the provisions for them.

The picture of the underside of the Jeep, the plate is the same on mine Jeep. Using that for seat belts, I think that is a 11/16 fine thread nut.. The seat belts had a philps head screw for attachment.

Thanks. Are the clasp the push button style or the lift latch style.

The bolts in your photo are filling the holes for the seat belt mounts. My '64 originally came from the dealer with gray seat belts with a plain chrome ( lift style) buckle. I suspect this was a dealer option.
A short forged 5/8" eyebolt threaded into the holes with the reenforced backing plate pictured, and the ends of the seat belts had a pair of stamped steel plates with a J hooks that stacked together from opposite directions, making a secure loop in the eyebolt when the webbing was tightened. This was for each end of the belt.

I pulled one of the bolts out on mine. It’s 7/16 diameter fine threads. Bolt head uses 5/8. Wondering if mine came with seat belts and where taken out or just had the option of mounting them?

If you go to You Tube, Metalshaper just posted a Metalshaper's 2018 projects video that both provides some history of seat belt brackets and provides an overview of adding them to a CJ that does not have the factory mounts.

The lap belts from seatbeltsplus are pretty close to the originals (minus the "Jeep" logo and aged/questionable webbing). You can order with any color webbing, but the charcoal is probably closest to original. I will also admit I have eye-balled the lap belts on airplanes

That is a very interesting way of attaching the seat belts.

I’ve seen some of his videos but not that one. I’ll have to go take a look.

I have these for the rear seat of my Jeep, and shoulder belts with the same type of latches for the front seats.

Hard to see but under the date stamp is an example of the attachment Donny is describing.

Those belts and eyebolts came from my 65 Tux and are on a 67.

Thanks for the picture. Was that style specific to the Tux?

    I don't think so.

Not specific. My '67 front seat belts attach this way. The back just bolt directly to the floor.
