Just a question for those that have an efi system. What did you do about a fuel tank baffle?

I had a tank built for me by Boyd Welding in Florida. My stock underseat tank has no baffle unless there was one from the factory, which I doubt. The system doesn't much like washboard roads so I have been looking at a hydromat for that tank to stop the cavitation.

I have my factory rear tank so not sure what to do about this.

Mike - the system we just put on *******'s uses the Command Module - the only thing he added was a return from the Module to the original tank and a venting gas cap. It uses the same low pressure pump to fill the module - he had an electric he was using prior, but no reason a mechanical couldn't do the job. The only high pressure is from the pump in the Module to the throttle body. He has a plastic tank with a pickup tube in the top. He plans to go to a rear tank in the future, and I'm sure I'll address any issues then with him.

I put a small baffle system in my custom tank when I built it, and will probably do the same with the next one and add a drain plug. Frankly, my system uses a pickup tube to the bottom of the tank and the pump is on the frame rails. Never had an issue and I don't think the baffle system is the main reason - I don't let it get too low, but was more worried about off camber than wash boards.

BTW I confirmed with Holley. The Sniper EFI BBD for Jeep CJ runs the same software as the rest, so it can be bolted to a 4 cyl.

Do you guys know if the carb bolt pattern for the 1BBLs in the 70s were the same as the YF?

Any updates on *******’s use of the FITech system?
    Thanks

******* ran it for over a week up on it's first trip. When I talked to him the other day he said that the base program would go out after a couple days, it would be hard to start, he just re-set the module and things went back to running great. He needed to do a flash update and that all seems to be resolved now. He is very happy with how it went in and how it's running.

My thoughts - if your keeping a stock tank or don't want to mess with that change - use the command module, great way to go. I bought parts for the '62 build for an on rail pump setup like I'm using on my two current rigs. I have thought about the command module (there is SO much more room in a 5's engine bay compared to a 3's) or an in-tank pump since I'll be building the tank from scratch anyhow.

All in all - I think it's a great option. I'll see if I can grab some pics this weekend and post them on her for folks if they are curious.

pics of the command module would be great. In my head...I think the inside driver fender would work as mounting place...fuel lines to the mechanical pump stay same but the it goes to the command module and then to the throttle body. Sounds like the fuel return goes from the module though instead of from the mechanical pump. I would also assume one can mix the FiTech command module with another system like the holley set up posted by mcruff?

The Sniper is a direct competitor for it. It's a TBI system in and of itself. On the Sniper, the PCM is integrated in the throttle body unit.

I want to use the sniper tbi with the fitech fuel pump system...that way I can keep my current dual tank set up.

Took some pics of *******'s install of his FITech and Command Module.

You can see the full install here.

    Closeup of the Command Module.

Better view of the Throttle Body. He even has a riser on the intake to the Throttle Body.

    Thank you!

    Looks great!

Just one question - why the 1” (guessing) spacer under the FITech?

Close to where I plan on mounting my G-surge unit (relies on regulator in the go-street unit)

    Hi Mike,
You need a baffled tank . Here's one Co. Fuel Tank - Spectra Premium

I know that with any throttle Body FI systems , you should be using an electric fuel pump.with a FP regulator that takes you up to 42 PSI.

He had the room and it helps with the fuel atomization. Not required, he had it and wanted to use it. I run my systems on a Kenne Bell Number One (he got his from me) and an Offy Dual Port so I know they work fine.

You should verify the requirements for the TBI your running. The EZ-EFI uses 43 PSI, however, the Powerjection III and the Summit both need 58 PSI, and I'm not sure what the FITech Requires.

The FITech utilizes low pressure fuel supply much like the Howell throttle body system which is actually a GM system. Their instructions note to remove and replace your fuel supply system if it is high pressure. High pressure supply is not compatible with their command module.

It seems that there are quite a few systems out there , with different engineering & requirements . I see that some use the ECM & other systems do not. It almost seems that ECM controlled systems ='s higher FP ?
I , myself, have been learning the Buick Turbo V6 SFI system , for my CJ5. I guess I should stick to that , 'cuz it can get a bit confusing. The bottom line is , that FI is a much better system , on the trails, than the old Carbs. Converting them takes a lot of research & advice from the MFGer.
Good Speed , ya'all & have some fun out there.

Maybe I wasn't clear - I was talking direct to the Throttle Body - your correct that the Command Module uses low pressure input and return. The only High Pressure is from the regulated output on the Command Module to the Throttle Body...
