1974 Renegade Front Bumper

Did these Jeeps come with the chrome Tuxedo Park style front bumpers or did they come with the standard black bumpers like the other CJ5's at the time? I noticed in "The Great Escape" Jeep ad the Jeep has the chrome front bumper.

Also, would an old Tux bumper be a direct fit to a Renegade?

 

They were probably still available in 74 through the parts department. A tux bumper will fit up through 75.

 

So it's possible that the black bumper came on the Renegade from the factory?

 

Most likely came from the factory with a standard black steel bumper.

Pretty sure the chrome bumpers were a straightforward option in the intermediate years. Not part of the Renegade package though. All the Renegades I remember from the '70s had the plain black steel bumper. Realize that, with the wide front cross member, the bumper simply bolted on, and you could install either style at will. Factory equipment., dealer installed, or customer installed - order the parts through the dealership and bolt them on.

 

There is a very minor difference between the chrome Tux bumper and the intermediate chrome Renegade bumpers. The Tux bumpers have square holes for the round head carriage bolts that fasten them, and the later bumper had round holes and used an oval head bolt. I believe either will interchange, as will a front bumper from a Commando, though the Commando bumper uses six bolts instead of two for the Tux.
