Exactly right. In the woods and backroads of NH I would not want anything bigger than the F-Head, unless for deep snow or mud - and perhaps not even then.
I had a 258-six once and on the trail it always seems to be bullying me.

Finger lakes region. Like smack in the middle between Rochester and Syracuse. So I've tried looking and can't find anything the soft doors that came with it don't fit very well and can be hard to close. Can anyone point me in the right direction to make some adjustments for better fitment?

That is where a picture (or several) could help. Along with that a description of what is happening or what you feel might be the problem area.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

In capable hands, the F4 powered Jeep will go the same places as any other Jeep.
It may not get there as fast as the others, but it will get there.

Agreed. Just not as fast. For somebody who's looking for a motor upgrade already I don't think he would be happy with its performance

Sell the jeep. By a new one that will already do what you want.

IMG_20170329_161434.jpg heres the fuse box finally got to pull all the fuses and found one bad one the top left 7.5 tried to replace and it sparked and blew new fuse. Is that def a bad ground? I went through everything and it all looks grounded pretty well.

This is the leak I was talking about. Is that a seal or should I be worried? Plan to pull either way to check but still wanting to know if I should expect the worse.

And I'm not looking to swap the engine to do some huge remodel of it. I want to keep as original as possible. But from what I've read on here you want a bigger wider tire for more stability and you can't do that with the current f134. I'm not looking to do some huge v8 swap and make it a hot rod of some sort. I just want a little extra hp and increase drivability and make it a little more stable and less prone to rolling over.

If you are worried about rollovers, put in a roll bar. If you already have a roll bar, just drive sensibly and stop worrying.

Thinking you must have wider axles and therefore a bigger engine is perhaps an answer looking for a problem. I think you may have misunderstood that you read on this forum that wider axles are necessary. Most times that this group goes wider axle is to upgrade the front axle to a narrow track Dana 30 and that's only 3" wider. And that's done for a host of reasons such as better turning radius, stronger axle shafts, better options for lockers or limited slips etc in addition to increased stability. But the D30 is nearly bolt on along with bolt-ons such as a roll bar, overdrive and 11" drum brakes.

Do the easy stuff and retain the Fhead. Sounds like you are jumping way ahead of yourself by worrying about wider axles and swapping engines. You probably have months of work just to get the jeep road worthy and safe.

Less prone to rolling over on the street or on the trail? On the trail, you can add a roll cage for safety, and don't drive on crazy side hills. The Jeep retailers sell an inclinometer that may make you feel more secure.

Wide tires will make the Jeep more likely to roll over on the street. Narrower tires will be more likely to slide than wider tires, and if you don't slide you either stop or tip over. Better brakes will help your confidence too ... you won't be as likely to make some wild evasive maneuver that could make you tip over. You're not going to be driving this Jeep like a sports car.

    The pedals look original.

Do the doors have a handle? That should latch the doors. Looks like the doors are mounted a little too low - they should go into the step in the body when closed. The hinge pocket at the bottom of the door is supposed to have a stop at the bottom so the door stays higher. Do you have a bar across the top of the door opening? Usually there is supposed to be one.

The wiring is totally somebody's homemade thing. It may have come in a kit, or they might have put it together from scratch. The auto retailers sell universal (hot rod) wiring harnesses, that come with a fuse box, a bunch of colored wire, and instructions - you may have that. You are probably going to have to trace out every wire and make a diagram of the wiring. Then you can fix what's wrong, and tidy it up some. You can buy split plastic "loom" that will bundle the wires together, and still be removable. Prior to the plastic loom, the manufacturers used plastic tape with no adhesive. They'd bundle the wires and make a half-hitch at the end of the bundle to hold the wires. Either method will make your wiring a lot neater.

The leak looks pretty insignificant to me. Maybe a new valve cover gasket?

Yeah there's no stop on the bottom hinge it's just kind of setting in the open hole. Door has a latch not a handle like you said. I had already decided not to do the axles. Between the regearing and what you guys said it just made more sense to put the money towards front disk conversion. And is tracing the wires and making a diagram the only way to trouble shoot that fuse? I have a feeling that's my head and brake light problem and I'm trying to figure that out quick so I can take it out and see how everything runs to go on from there. That leak from the headgasket is that something typical in the fhead and just a seal? It runs and idles fine minus the little bit of gas that come out carb in idol
