Jeep Rim Question 15 Inch 5x5 1/2 8 Inch Wide

    To all,

I came across some 15 inch jeep rims, 5x5 1/2 by 8 inches wide. They have a KH yellow sticker on the inside portion of the rim and are painted black.

What in the heck are they for. I have not seen stock rims this wide before, but then again, I haven't looked for them either. They look factory made per se, not something that was cobbled up.

I also would like to know what tire size/width would work best on them. Are they appropriate for my 6t6 CJ5 V6 stocker.

    Thanks,

    Frank

You will need to find someone on this forum to help you dispose of them. I believe those are radioactive.

    Do they look like this?

    Mark and Ron,

Thanks for the replies. Yes, they look like the red ones, but are painted black. Mark, do you know what size tires are on the red rims ? Ron says 30-9.50 would be the smallest.

    Thanks again,

    Frank

    Is the KH number 103599?

They are aftermarket for CJ Jeeps and Full size Bronco.

    Very sought after.

I had 31 X 10.50 tires. I like the ride and look but the steering was harder than with smaller tires. I believe those are Renegade I wheels.

Maybe you can post a photo of your rims. Use protective gloves.:sneak:

    Bowbender I'm workin' on it!

I inherited a set of those with my rig too. I didn't know they were dangerous, I'll have to keep them in the corner under a lead blanket ;)

Yeah, looks like scrap metal to me too. I'll be happy to take care of that for you. Save you the trouble. I'll be at Portland International Raceway for the annual swap meet in April.

On a more serious note, yes they were the stock wheel for the Renegade 1 trim package. Painted an off white color. I think they must have been available as an option on others also. I put 31x10.50 BF Goodrich All Terain T/A's on mine and have absolutely no trouble whatsoever steering.

I'm sure you could buy these retail in the early '70s. At the very least, over the Jeep dealership parts counter. Chuchua sold 'em. 8" KH wheels were popular add-on at purchase time. Black IIRC.

They must have fit over 11" drums (which the Ren 1 wheels do not, IIRC). These may not fit over 11" drums, being riveted.

They'll fit a Ford pickup, but the centers are correct for Jeep. The rolled edge on the center hole is telling.

Not sure, but I believe the 4x4 Ford was the same, wasn't it? Don't have one any more, so I cannot go look.

It's the same pattern and they both need a big center hole. They would fit a Ford 4x4. Not sure if the Ford hub is as large in diameter as the Jeep ... it's a D44 and somehow I think the diameter is smaller. Maybe not.

I have seen more than one 4wd Ford pickup with the KH steelies over the years, and have gotten several sets from them years back. As Tim said above in post #12, the Jeep dealer was the go-to place for wider rims back in the day before aftermarket parts were available everywhere. It was the late '70s before aftermarket wagon wheels started coming to the market, so for about a 10 year window prior to that, the KH 8" wheels were very popular.
