I need to remove the broken pin that keeps the rest of the broken cross shaft in place. Any suggestions?

That is how I did mine. I drove it from the passenger side to driver side. Left to right if you are sitting in front of diff. I used a long pin punch then worked it out the last bit by wiggling it with vice grips. I had to remove the passenger shock absorber to get a decent swing with the hammer. After I got the pin out everything else pretty much fell out by itself.

    Pics coming in real time.

This is going to be full of technical jargon. I hope you guys can keep up. I used a drift punch to get the retaining pin out, so that the cross shaft could be removed. In order to get it completely out I had to take the strap thingy off the side of the carrier.

Once you have the Cross Pin out, you come to the sad realization that you really do have to remove at least one side of the axle to remove the spider gears.

I wiggled mone every which way but loose before I gave up and pulled the driver side hub. A lot of work just to move the axle shaft an inch.

When looking at this post and #12 it appears as though the case is cracked at the location of the retaining pin. I suppose it's probably the pictures but I have to ask.
