Self Motivation

My wife had some stencil daubers. Worked pretty well, passes the 10 foot test.

Worked on zinc plating more parts. Made a gizmo to hold the bolts so I could put some clear overcoat on them.

 

Finished nearly all of the plating today, got crazy and did the lug nuts. Accomplished this weekend: Installed radiator hoses, installed new float on fuel sender and put the sending unit on with a new gasket, fixed glove box latch, sandblasted the grab handle and primed, installed the restored cigar light in the dash, cleaned up the temp control cable I got from vitoh, disassembled the heater box and fan assembly to start on them.

 

Today's progress. Cleaned,sandblasted and primed the heater assembly. Stripped paint off the air cleaner, ready for paint. Assembled some parts on the dash. Painted the grab bar. started cleaning up the glove box to assemble. Discovered I am missing the glove box latch striker? I'll post a question on ECJ5 Tech. PO had put a locking latch on the glove box and pitched the original button.

I like how you have everything laid out. Much easier to find when putting it back together.

 

Since I took this apart 15 years ago I have to do a lot of remembering to get it all back where it belongs. Laying it out is my way of organizing my thoughts. I kept all the sub assemblies in labeled boxes but I still get a little confused. I took pics as I dissassembled it, but what I thought was important then to record turns out to not show the little details I need to put it back together.

 

That's what we all are here for, to act as your memory. Post up your pics and questions. I'm sure someone on here has reached the stage your at and has done the steps. Jeep is looking good.

And I'm curious on your zinc coating?? how are you doing that?? or is it paint? looks good!

 

The paint code for the transport yellow is Ditzler # DQE-80050-DAL. It shows up on most Willys searches for that color.
That is zinc plating with a clear coat over it. Not the best because it kind of turns out like primer grey but they won't corrode any more.

 

Got most of the dash put together. I cleaned up and re-used the PO's homemade glove box. It's way bigger than the original.

 

Got some work in this week. It is finally warm enough to paint outside, so I took advantage and got the air cleaner and heater painted yesterday. Assembled them today. Another step closer. I mocked up the fan box and plenum. Does it look like it is right? Didn't have a picture and the original cardbard plenum was gone.

 

More progress on assembly. I think I have most everything on that I need to put in the new wire harness. Should I put in the floorboards before the dash goes on? Everything is easy to get to right now.

 

I vote for floorboards first. It will give you something to lay parts on while lining everything up.

 

Damn, I wish mine was that far along.

 

I got the hood back from the painter today. He had to repaint it due to fisheye problems. Got it mounted. Question: any suggestions for aligning it? It looks like the grill is tilted down on the drivers side. It goes from no gap on the passengers side to about 3/8" on the drivers side. Also need opinions on the master cylinder cover. The original was OD green. Looks original to the jeep, as the caulking pattern matched both sides. I don't think the original owner would have changed or lost the original. Keep it OD as an homage to original or go black like the rest of the floorboards?

 

You've already done so much, I'd say paint it or it will be an eye sore.
