1970 134 Fhead Head Gasket Replacement

    Well, no time like the present to do whatever you can to eliminate or reduce any loose stuff floating around. Don't forget you have a drain/petcock on the side of the block.

    so, talking to my partner in crime, and the brains behind my mechanical aptitude, he said after I get my head torqued to set my valve lash.

    now I'm scratching my head.

    Yes, for the intake valves in the head. Didn't you do that when you replaced the head gasket the first time?

    I didn't replace the head gasket the first time. I paid to have it done. that was about 4 or 5 years ago, and I assume it was done then? but I'm not sure.

    I did watch a youtube video on it, on a 134 motor, and it seems pretty straight forward.

    you must mean this last time, when I stripped the block bolt hole. no, I didn't do it then.

    I meant before the stripped bolt hole. I was thinking you had been involved in the replacement. Yes, it is pretty straightforward.

    You need to set (re-set) intake valve clearances, because they are dependent upon the head gasket's installed thickness.

    Your oil filter setup should be sharing some of those head bolt as well as the throttle linkage pivot.

    Ouch! Good catch. It looks like the throttle bracket might be bolted down, but can't tell for sure.

    the throttle bracket is bolted down on the driver side of the engine.

    The stock OEM oil filter-cannister is mounted on the front right corner of the head. It has a bracket that is mounted under the headbolts.

    The throttle linkage also has a similar arrangement under a headbolt near the left rear corner.

    If you have these items, they need to be mounted before torquing the head bolts.
