'67 CJ5 Dauntless fuel lines

I want to change the fuel supply lines on my Jeep. The listing for replacements at Classic Tube references "over the engine". Mine are under the engine. Questions: Should it be over the engine (I've seen later models with over the engine)? If under the engine, where to get replacements? Thanks for any feedback.

I have a couple original dauntless engines with the fuel lines and both of them were over the engine.

My question is where do the lines go after. The factory illustration shows an odd routing and I can't wrap my mind around it image.jpeg

    That's quite like my '69.

4.160-2 & 5 go aft from back of engine on right side (looking forward) along transmission to under the body. Rubber hoses go to the fuel tank through two holes in the floor.

4.160-1 & -3 go forward from back of engine on left side, above the valve cover to forward, then down the front of the engine to under the fuel pump (4.110-10).

4.175-1 and the lines for the filter are all on the front, going up and across the front to the right side of the engine, with 4.176-1 going into the carb. On mine the filter is quite low, with 4.176-1 being quite long and having an extra bend in it not shown in the diagram.

It's 4.160-2 & 5 that have me stumped. Can you snap some detailed photos and post them? Another member is doing a restoration (Johns1967cj5) and both of us are trying to figure this out, but to no avail.

Well, when I stuck my phone in there to take a picture, no metal fuel lines, just rubber hoses!

Below is looking from left fender, aft of the engine. That is the throttle linkage, with the hoses/lines in the center.

On the other side, again looking over the RIGHT fender, aft towards the firewall.

Essentially, the rubber line goes from the left side, passes across the engine, has a coil in it, then passes along the top of the transmission aft to the two holes in the body and goes all the way to the fuel tank.

Mentally I had a picture of metal fuel lines from the right side, where the coil is, aft along the transmission. Not a mod I noticed when I went over it. Something else to correct...

67 had 2 versions of how the fuel lines were routed. Steel lines along side of oil pan, to rubber lines then to plastic which ran to the tank then back to rubber. The over the engine version connected to rubber lines at rear of engine, then to plastic along pass side frame rail, attached to under the tub to tank then back to rubber to hook to tank.

What color green is that? I had a hard time trying to find just the right Buick green?

    Thanks

Looks like you are keeping it completely stock, no up grades on the steering or anything?

I must be getting old, I can'to seem to drive anything unless it has power?

Yes, I want this to be like I walked into a jeep dealer in 1967 and bought it. Its a challenge to me and fun.

I agree. That's the greatness of it. It's modern archeology. If you make it modern and modify it, it takes all of the romance out of it for me.

Well I guess my fuel lines were original. I didn't want lines over the engine so I bought the steel coiled tubing and bent it myself to copy the original routing.

My new tank doesn't have a pipe thread bung for the vent line and I've got to fab that in.
