Cost to sandblast a CJ5 frame?

I am still trying to figure out if I am gonna try a frame off on my 69 CJ5V6. What kind of range on prices should I consider fair for budget purposes? Thanks WCP

 

When you put it that way it does sound cheap.

 

Also spend the time an build yourself a turning rig!!!It will pay for itself every time you sand on the body an don't have to bend over!!!once you pull it off frame you might find you can clean frame with a wire brush an treat the frame with good primer(rustolem) an paint. just my $00.02 worth..

 

2 harbor freight engine stands and some fabricating will make you a good one

 

I used a Harbor Freight engine stand on one end and a square tube on the other so I could rotate it quarter turns. You can make a saw horse on wheels and roll it in and out of the garage. it cost me about $60.00 to blast it at a local blaster.

I paid $150 to have mine done it was well worth the lack of hassle compared to doing it myself. And I have done a couple hundred hours of sandblasting on all sorts of things. I own two cabinets and an open air gun.

 

I tried one of the HF units on my first build..... total waste of time and money. I decided to go the professional route with my jeep frame. They had it back to me in a few days for only $100. well worth it in my opinion.

 

I paid around 80-90 to have my frame blasted.

 

I paid $100.00 for my frame and $350.00 for the tub and hood,fenders, grill, tail gate. Best money I spent on the build. By sand blasting the frame I was able to see all the stress cracks that I hadn't seen before.

 

I'm working a '68 cj5 project. I'm ready to have the tub, fenders, hood, windshield, etc. sandblasted. I'm near Seattle. I emailed three different locally advertised sandblasters. Only a single one responded and that was with two words, "too busy." I called another another that advertised on craigslist. He asked me to send pictures. Never heard back. I talked to a mobile soda blaster. He charges $200/hr and thinks it'll cost $1300 to blast. The prices paid earlier in this thread seem unbelievably good. Anyone have any recommendations in the Pacific Northwest? All of the parts are off the jeep.

 

I too had planned to sandblast my own frame, bought the HF tank, etc...replaced some of the crummy valves, fiddled with it for awhile and quickly realized it was going to take a long time, use alot of media and make a big mess. After the first bag of media, I called a local guy that does mobile commercial blasting. He said $100. Couldn't get the money out of my wallet quick enough (I would have spent that on media alone). Dropped it off and he had it done the next day.

I have taken various other parts to him since. He told me to just put whatever I need blasted in a cart under his carport and he will work them in while doing a bigger job, "Just leave a few bucks under the brick by the cart when you pick them up and we are all good." Works out great.

You might ask around, see if someone knows somebody that does blasting...maybe work out a similar arrangement?

 

I paid around $80 to have my frame sandblasted back in 2005. I dropped it off and picked it up the next morning.

 

You guys gotta remember that minimum wage out here is $11.50 an hour and $15 in Seattle. Anybody that can read and write is making $20.

 

Bring it with you on your next trip to Idaho. The land of desperate workers for slave labor rates.

 

I guess I'm taking a road trip to Arkansas (or Idaho). I'd love to load a jeep tub into the guy's cart in his carport with three $100 bills taped to the firewall.

 

You might try calling a few powder coating places. Sand blasting and powder coating goes hand in hand. My sand blaster is actually a powder coater who doesn't come up in any searches for sand blasters.
