Steering wheel removal tips?

My dad is in the process of doing a frame-off go-over on his 46 2A, and he called me yesterday looking for ideas on how to remove the steering wheel without damaging it. It's been soaking in Kroil. He's afraid he'll destroy the nut/shaft if he puts a puller on it. Any tricks to breaking the 70-year-old bond?

He mentioned something about seeing a puller online, then grumbled something about not paying $90 for it. That must be it.

If he's too lazy to make that simple thing, then poo on him! :D

    Thanks duffer!

I spoke to him today; he made a few adapters for a 3-jaw puller. He said it sounded like a gun when it popped loose.

He got it to come off without wrecking the threads on the shaft? That is an accomplishment. They do not like to come off. Last one I did i took the worm out of the ross box to get the body off.

Yeah, he said he had a 1 1/2" nut that just sat on the hex of the steering wheel nut, not on the "acorn" part for the horn button. I try not to ask too many questions concerning his hi-jinx. It's just better that way.
