Interesting welded frame additions, what in the world are these for?

Any guesses as to why these would be on frame? One on each side, pretty close to the center.... They are uber strong and you could flip/pick up the vehicle by them. We have some thoughts that this was in a wreck a really long time ago as there is some metal work done with fiberglass patches and then some interesting aluminum type plates riveted for reinforcement in some strange non structural places. The fiberglass patches on metal followed up with bondo were done before the repaint to the second version of green this cj has seen.

Don't be too jealous of the exhaust hanger in the first picture :)

My guess is that they are winch points in case of a roll over.

Maybe to anchor and allow straightening of a bent frame?

Or possibly a convenient tie-down for frequent transport?

Jealous of the exhaust hanger in the first picture? Not so , but maybe that wiring job...............Just Kidding!

Maybe some form of tie down for a trailer? or maybe and unusual version of a skid plate??????

Looks like you have some work to do there, Wiring , Body mounts , exhaust system, Rust............Good Luck on your Project!

Id guess it lived as a trailered off-road warrior, or was a truckers personal vehicle and was trailered to job sites a lot.
Or it liked to fly, and the owner put a leash on it...

To me, they look like tie downs for transport.

Tie downs are the most logical explanation to me.

Sort of contrary to what I have always done. I've always hooked to the axles so the body was free to bounce up and down on it's springs and not losen or rebound aginst the chains or straps when you hit a bump. A friend used to get a vehicle on a trailer, deflate all of the tires, chain it on then reinflate the tires. Yep, those chains were tight. My guess is for tie downs as well.

Unkel Dale delivery on my Jeep from Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Are there many extra holes where something was mounted in the bed? Tie bar loops for a drag behind grader, tiller?

Tie downs make sense, Unkel Dale raises a great point. This jeep spent all its life on a pair of working farms. Last registration of when it was on the road (legally) was 1995, it has only done about 2k miles since then according to all the old papers I found in the tool box. I really think the mileage might be original at around 38k.....

It would definitely make for a quick way to secure it. Only problem with just tying in the middle is it wouldn't necessarily keep the Jeep from bouncing around on the trailer because it could possibly rotate. if the tires front and rear were between some sort of edge such as boards that would be a pretty quick and secure tie down system.

Like Dale said maybe farming stuff...

Is there any signs of wear on the inside of the rings?

Way would you pull or tow something from the center of the Jeep?

For tie downs their over kill.
