Hello, I've been lurking in the weeds now for a couple of years reading info on this site. you guys are a wealth of information, thanks.
I've been trying to find out exactly what my jeep is and I think i have some of it right.

    Vin 8305017 367725
    Dash tag: Sept 1970
    Paint: 431
    Trim: 338
    225/T14/D18 single stick
    flanged D44
    no guages in dash
    14 in rims.
    rear gas tank.

no tailgate/ tire carrier welded to back plate

Do I have a Renegade II?
The trim code says yes, the paint code says no. So confused.

    Any help shedding some light?

Even though you've been a lurker, heres a Welcome from Minnesota!

Trim 338 is Buckskin Vinyl, not sure that that was a Renegade I/II trim..... Most were charcoal with pinstripe or white.

Your original color is Avacado Mist and I don't think we've ever seen that color Renegade here.

Do you have any of the following:
    visors
    rollbar
ammeter and oil pressure gauges on dash
    engine oil pan skid plate
    dash pad
    heavy duty frame
    heavy dudty springs
    swing away spare tire carrier
15X8 Kelsey Hayes steel wheels or D-slot alluminum wheels
    rear seat
    rear side mounted reflectors
4.88 gears with Trac-Loc in the rear

These are most of the parts characteristic of an early Renegade. Having no tailgate is indicitive of a Renegade II, but like all the above, could be a replacement or modification.

Ah. Ok. No, I don't have any of those things. Thought I had some 1 off.
I'm beginning to think I have a basket case the more I tear it apart. Good thing it was free. Thanks for the response.

You might have a basket case so to speak, but there are some desirable parts in that basket. :)
