It was too short. I cut 2 1/2” squares to match the tubing diameter, then found the circumference, divided by four, and that’s what I trimmed the width of the ends of the tabs to in order to mold seamlessly around the tube. Smash them together with heat and a hammer, then weld them up!

 

Impressive.

 

Something I've wanted for a long, long time.... a Yazoo Master Mower. I picked this unit up for very very cheap last Saturday because it was "smoking". It smoked when the previous owner started it but it hasn't smoked since then. I took it to my friend's new place and cut their yard. I cut all this with my old Snapper RER with a 28" or so deck and it took a few hours.
It took some getting used to but I finally got the hang of driving the Yazoo. I greased every zerk I found and added oil (SAE 30) to the pump which powers the transaxle and lifts/lowers the deck. It has a water cooled 20hp Kawasaki V twin and a 60" cut. The nice thing about the deck is that it floats across the ground which is handy for yards that are not level or have minor ruts. Turning sharp at a high rate of speed will throw you off the machine so it's best to hold on tight when doing so. Almost threw me clear off it. It's just a hoot to drive around.




My first real build.... '79 Ford 400M

Finally got it bored, decked, and honed. Waiting for the roller lifters and rockers and a set of Edelbrock Aluminum heads. The owner was going to get a set of Trick Flow heads but they were on backorder. I'll be balancing the rotating assembly tomorrow and I'm pretty much done with it. I'll help assemble and break in the engine. I guess it'll be about $6-8k build by the time it's done (labor included). I'd never sink that kind of money into a boat anchor like this, but that's not for me to decide.

 

Pretty cool. Those old YaZoos just keep on running.

a few that haven't already been mentioned: a 2000 passat that needs a clutch, a '97 S10 that had a transmission failure, and a 2006 (?) york 12,000 lift forklift with a GM 4.3 that had an awful rebuild done, needed boring, rings, heads, pretty much a complete rebuild plus some less common propane forklift heads. got it for a case of energy drinks, paid a few hundred to get it home, and hope to make a good profit off of flipping it.

 

Performed some overdue maintenance on the GX470. Timing belt jobs are a breeze on these once you get all the stuff out of the way.

It wasn't too bad just have to remove the radiator, fan, fan shroud, intake hose, thermostat housing, alternator, a/c compressor, power steering pulley, harmonic balancer, misc. covers, cooling hoses, some wires, serpentine belt tensioner, and that's about it. What took the longest was reinstalling the hose clamps. Total pita. It only pays 4 hours.

 

That's a lot of work to break even at 4 hours.

 

Flat Rate is tough. Power tools are a must have and even then you may or may not beat the clock.

 

Picked up a '98 Grand Cherokee Limited this afternoon. I've wanted one with a V8 for some time and finally found one cheap and close by. I put a battery in it and drove it a few miles. It wants to cut off occasionally while under load and there's no CEL right now. I'm leaning towards old and/or dirty fuel since it's been sitting for a few months or the fuel pump. I'll have to put a pressure gauge on the rail and check out the pressure and go from there. It does have new plugs/wires/cap/rotor.

I bought a trailer hitch for the ZJ and went to install it. All the bolts broke off in the bumper mounts and one of the welded on nuts broke free of the weld so I had to finesse the angle grinder between the fuel tank and body to cut the head off. Total pita.



I didn't want to use that old garbage over again so I dug through my scrap pile and found a piece of rectangle (2x4x1/4) tubing that seemed to fit the bill but it was a hair short for what I wanted to do. There's much more to be done to it but that's as good as it'll get for now. I don't need the trailer hitch anymore since I could just put one on the bumper.

 

I can't even imagine working somewhere that charges 4. That's at least 7 hours.

2017 TB Kart S55 (LO206)

 

Inherited this from my son, we just couldn't part with it. It's a '17 Subaru WRX 6spd 2.0L turbo, hopped up and has 310 hp driving 325 ft lbs torque at the wheels per the papers we found from the tuners shop. Needless to say it's a hoot to drive. It is now my commuter car for a while 'till my old arse can't get in it anymore. Love you Matt!
