Purchased this Cub and drug it home.






The battery box cover is long gone. The + post was too close to the seat for my liking so I made a cover from an idle plastic bat. Don't tell my grandson.

I noticed a shiny spot and found that the shaft was rubbing a hydraulic line. This photo is after the repair.


I bent the clamp just a bit to move the line (in the circle). The arrow points to where the rub was.


While I was in there I repaired the tail light wire.



After a few adjustments on the mower and fixing a flat on the rear, I cleaned it up a little. More to be done but this made today fun.

 

Looking good! But I think it is time to upgrade and I have you covered!!! But I have to mention that I added 1 hour to the engine...we are now at 51!

 

I also acquired a little farm Tractor a while back.......a Ford 1500 1979 vintage 4-wd 2cy diesel 20 HP made in Japan......hour meter only shows 024 hrs......been slowly learning about this tractor & changing fluids and also getting up to speed on 3 point hitches that also came with this little beauty..........This actually came with a much larger project that I'm currently remodeling now.

 

You guys have me envious, every time I mow (almost every week) I have to fix my pos craftsman mower. I had a beautiful bobcat ct122 tractor a few years ago, but it wasn't maneuverable enough for my yard.

Do y'all recommend any particular classic as a "lifetime" mower? My biggest stipulation is that it needs to be able to mow about 600 ft of sidehill roadside(about 35 degree agle) and be maneuverable enough to get around a yard with "island features" and trees.

My thought was to purchase a bcs 2 wheel tractor and a sulky, but even that is really expensive.

 

Not that I'm an expert but if your looking at a tractor PTO output Horsepower is what you have to concern yourself with on a mowing deck that has a 50-60" cut.......

 

Just get an old gravely you can still get every part for them and there are enthusaiasts all over

 

I just happen to have a Gravely that needs a home if you decide to go that way.....

 

I've looked at gravely's, but the only mowers that I've seen on them are the round 20something cut ones, and the rumors that I've heard is they'll beat you up having to muscle them.

My work threw out a gorgeous super convertible (is that the one with the 12hp motor?)a few years ago because they didnt use it, and the auctions that they used to have stopped because people complained about "fairness".

Thanks for sharing that. I plan to read it all closely. I’m a huge Landrover Series fan having grown up with them in Africa. I will probably sell or trade the FJ40 at some point to get a Series 2 (or 1) 88”.

 

I like the old yazoo mowers. Cut a few acres with one my buddy’s grandfather had. It had a 60” deck and 2 cylinder kohler?

Stabbed an np435/205 in a 78 f250. It got seals and gaskets a few weeks ago. I’ve been enjoying the m1028. Vacuum pumps are practically nonexistent for the 6.2 now so I’ve been thinking about a future nv4500 swap.

 

Got my tv cable and tv cable bracket/rod that hooks to the injection pump on the 6.2. Apparently the tv cable bracket and rod are real hard to find but I guess I lucked out. Waiting on the mechanical modulator for the TH400. I bought a new lift pump to replace the electric pump someone installed. Found some hmmwv wheels and tires. Tall tires are a poor man's overdrive.

 

guess I'll be putting a new front clip on putt putt. 10 years at a deer camp and the only damage was a .308 taking out the driver door handle.....was just about to get a new set of MT's and front end alignment.
Installed the new lift pump on the m1028 and removed the chrome "roll" bar. Not pumping fuel so I'll take it back off to see what I missed.

 

Mechanical th400 modulator installed. Tv cable had a square end and the hole in the bracket was a circle... carved it up like a thanksgiving turkey and pulled out the soldering iron to speed up the process. It fits the bracket now so I'm happy. The tv cable bracket and the rod that connects to the IP was for a HMMWV but it fit luckily. The cable/modulator for a M988 probably would've worked perfectly and cost me a 3/4 less than what I have in this junk.

 

Got home from work and noticed two leaking injectors, they just happen to be the two I cracked when I bled the system. Guess who gets a set of injectors, glow plugs, return hoses, glow plug card...... I'll have to get out the death wheel and remove the side steps.

Took the ol' cucv for a sunday afternoon drive. 52 miles of pleasant back road driving. Barely used any diesel. Can't wait to get taller tires (poor guy's od). I'm not looking forward to replacing the glow plugs but it has to be done before winter (January)

 

Sweet FJ40! Those things are so well (over) built its insane. I was helping a buddy do some body work on his 67 FJ and I was blown away at the build quality compared to our Jeeps.

 

cucv is 24v again and both alternators seem to be charging but my glow plugs don't work and the starter seems to turn it over slower than it should. Oh brother.... I think it's time to park this in the backyard for a few years and work on the jeep full time.
