I think the hardest decision I have had to make for my '67 CJ6 is what wheel and tire to put on it. I finally have settled on the combination and have picked up a set of 15x8 rims.

My CJ6 will be used primarily as an around town vehicle, with short highway trips Likely will never use the 4 wheel drive. Want more of the Tux Park/Resort look for this Jeep and want the ride of a radial tire.

Now the big question....What size tire?

Am thinking I will go with a 235R75x15

    Suggestions?

Go to TireRack.com and look at your candidate tires, or tires the same size as your candidate tires. The specifications will list a recommended wheel size.

For an 8" wide by 15" diameter wheel, you'd typically go with a 30x10.5-15 or 31x10.5-15 tire. You have lots of choices in an all-terrain tire in those sizes. A passenger car tire like you show will have few selections in a wide enough cross-section for 8" width and a 15" wheel. Yokohama 235R75-15s list a width range of 6-8". A 235-size tire is 235/25.4 = 9.25 inches in tread width. So this is 5/8" wider on each edge than the rim width. IMO a little wider tire, or a little narrower wheel would be better.

IMO if you aren't going to fit an all-terrain tire, you may as well stick with the factory wheels. They are 6" wide, and will work fine with passenger car tires. If you really want an aftermarket wheel, I'd suggest a 7" wide rim to go with passenger car tires.

Don't do a 237/75 on an 8 inch wheel. I have that on my JEEP and IMO they look a a little stretched, like they need to be a narrower wheel.

Airing down just cracked the tires at the bead, but that might be because they're eight years old.

just my opinion, but I agree. If you are already set on the 15x8 rims, you probably already know that a 245/70R15 might give you a little more width for the rim (and little less height overall - just less half an inch). I think that is a pretty common size...

Just because we like pics - what rims are you planning on using?

255R70-15 is another option. That's roughly the same height as the 235R75-15, made by several manufacturers in passenger car tires, and a better fit to an 8" rim.

Get an all terrain 31x10.50. 235/75's are too narrow for an 8" rim. What rims did you get?

Thanks Guys. I have 4 KH 15x8's that I just got back from the Sandblaster. I will post some pics when I get them painted next week. I am still in a deep hole on the decision of the tires, but this helps.

    Thanks Jon.

I run 30/9.50-15 on 8" wagon wheels . and they won't rub springs going from lock to lock . 31's rubbed a little . 33's forget even getting into those parking spaces at the stores/mall .without backing up . but spacers might have helped . anyway I think 235/75 would look like a low rider tire on those rims :D:D

I ran 30/9.50's on my 8" KH wheels years ago, and if you check tire specs there is not a real big difference between the 30/9.50 and a 235x75. My parents also had an 80's Suburban, came from the factory with 235x75's on 8" wide wheels. Anyone know what size tire came on the early Renegades with the 8" wheels? My guess would be a tire smaller than the 235x75. So anyway, I see no problem with 235x75's on the 8" wheels, especially for a street jeep.

My Vetts came with the equivelant of 225/70/15s on 8" rallys. My vote... 235s. I would go with early Renegade Alu. wheels with 235 white walls myself.

    Here are Firestone Destination A/T

they are 215/75R15 on a 15" rim 6" wide or at least I think the width is correct. It was stamped K H 4.5 on the inside of rim

closest thing I could find to original in a radial tire with out paying a bunch of money

Well, if they are stamped " K H 4.5 on the inside of rim" then they would be 15x4.5's Right?

That's what I thought, but I measured from lip to lip and it was 6".
I bought them from a guy who said they came off a Willys wagon from the 1950's. Them rims aren't welded but has rivets.

They are likey smaller than 6". The rim width is measured between the beads, inside to inside.

Yes I agree, however, the tires I purchesed for them fit well.
