Going to do this conversion when I get to Washington. My question is can it be done in the jeep?

I would say no. Just did this on mine. The big nut on the front of the shaft that sets the preload is almost impossible to get to once it's in the vehicle.

OK. Not a big deal. Just won't have a workbench when I first get there.

I agree I just did the conversion on mine, and after putting it together things are pretty close. Of course anything can be done with enough determination.

I'm looking to do this conversion as I'm on my second shaft in 3 years. My concern is I may have some interference with my adapter plate for the T18 and the nut on the end of the shaft. Since some of you have done this and know what it looks like, check out this pic and give me your thoughts. I can probably notch the plate and I'm guessing that's what I'll have to do.

The plate is right up against the t-case.

Posi, I would say the AA kit isn't going to work for your application.
The big nut & washer stick out the front of the tcase, and you don't have room for that.
I'd say you'll have to use Novak's shaft.

Is that a factory T-18 to D-18 adapter? I'm planning a T-18 swap and may have the same issue....

It's a Novak adapter. That said, I think I can notch the adapter to the dia. or slightly larger than the 1 1/4" pin to allow room for the nut. But since I've never seen what it actually looks like with the nut installed I can't say for sure that will work. Can someone post up a pic similar to the one I posted but with the AA unit installed?

Here's what I think may work. At least it works with MS Paint, ha ha .

    What do you think?

I just looked at the pic of the parts and it seems that the washer that goes between the nut and the collar might be problematic. However, that could be cut down as it doesn't have to be larger than the dia. of the collar, which I assume is the same dia. as the hole in the case.

Ask Patrick about this as he used a t18 with his setup that I did.

    Thanks Mcruff. I PM'd Patrick.

I used the factory T18-D18 adapter, so there were no clearance issues. Well, not anything major. It was pretty close, though. I did have to grind a flat on one side of the washer. In fact, just yesterday I had my old Jeep in the shop for service, and was looking up in there to make sure there were no leaks.

Thanks, Patrick. I think I'm just going to go for it and make it work.

I think I have that nut on my tcase, just thought it was original. I believe there is one on the front and the back but not sure. I will check this morning when I go to work, but cant post back until this evening. I have a AA adapter to a Muncie m21 trans.

Here's what mine looks like installed.

As you can see, I had to cut away part of the washer to clear the trans, too.

I also had to grind my washer to clear with a t-86, everything is stock, so i bet everyone has to clearance the washer
