drop down clutch and brake pedals

    hey guys I was wondering how difficult a project it would be to replace the thru the floor brake and clutch pedals with drop down pedals

    Search swinging pedals. Been done before.

    Most donor pedals have to be cut and rewelded to work with the Early CJs, but not something that can't be done.

    Do a search on this site for swing pedals.................Your early pedal assembly goes bye-bye as does your clutch linkage and frame mounted Master cylinder. The holes in the floor have to be plugged up. Most use a late 70's through early eighty's CJ / YJ Pedal assembly that mounts on the firewall. The pedals will normally have to be shortened about two inches to get floor / firewall clearance. A plate has to be installed on the firewall to help support the new assembly..............Now here is where the planning starts:
    Do you have now or want to do a Saginaw Steering upgrade or tilt column in the future? Reason being is the new pedals will either straddle the column or go to one side.
    Do you want power Brakes? Reason being is to get the Pedal assembly mounted in the correct position to accept the Booster.
    Your clutch linkage can be either manual or Hydraulic ............with the Hydraulic being easier. Hydraulic is easy just run a line.
    Proper pedal ratio's are also important......a Manual brake pedal assembly differs from a Power brake pedal assembly in the ratio at the brake pedal and its relationship to the push rod to the master or Booster. The manual brake system obviously has a greater mechanical advantage than the Vacuum boosted system and although they can be interchanged one has to know how to do that first. On the Hydraulic clutch again Cylinder placement and ratio is important so that the clutch master cylinder gets enough travel from the pedal to push enough fluid volume to move the slave cylinder at the Bell Housing / clutch cover.
    As you can see if you don't plan ahead , when you decide at a later date to up grade steering or a column or Power brakes you may have things in your way!

    Hopefully you are not totally confused by the concept..............its not a hard job just requires proper planning and time!
