Engine hesitates

I knew this would happen. The 'Ol girl heard me talking about selling her off, so of course she starts acting up. Here is the deal. The jeep starts fine and idles just like it always has, although now when I blip the gas, the engine stalls out until I let off the gas. If I ease into the throttle, if will increase RPM like normal. Awhile back, I did notice that it sounded like the engine backfired though the carb once or twice. It has done that before, but only once or twice when it was sitting over the winter.

I replaced the fuel filter and was hopeful that would have solved it, it didn't.

What should be the next easiest thing to look at? Throttle pump, intake jet, fuel pump or do you think it might be something electrical?

I didn't even know that was a thing. Would replacing this particular part require a carbarator rebuild?

Not huge job, can be done under the hood in half an hour (I assume you have an F-head?).

But not a bad idea to clean go through everything while you've got the top off the carb. Just don't lose the little check valve balls, etc.!

Oops, I guess I forgot to mention that this is a two barrel carb, sitting on a Buick 232 engine. I bet that makes a difference. Sorry, important information left out.
