Hey fellow Jeep persons, I continue to not be able to get my horn working. I replaced the button and all that is fine. As i'm not very good at electrical, what would be the best way to see if there is juice going to the horn itself? Can I run a wire from the positive post of the battery and make it work?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

If you still have the original horn, there are 2 prongs on the back that are marked plus + and minus -. The plus wire is supposed to be hot all the time with key ON or OFF. That is if wiring is standard. Put a test light into the plug for the corresponding hot wire and see if you have 12V. If you have power then install plug upside down meaning positive plug wire on positive terminal of horn and leaving the negative prong on horn exposed. Now ground this terminal and horn should honk.

I don't think the wiring is original however, I think the replacements were put in according to the original wiring. I'll give what you told me a try and let you know...

    Thanks so much

  4. The way the horn works is there is power going to it all the time...the horn button (when depressed) completes the circuit by grounding out on the steering column.

If the wire in the column is broken, you might be better off replacing the whole steering wheel switch setup with a dash switch.

Why? It's easy enough to to run a new wire up through the column, the switch contacts (if required) are readily available and having the horn button on the wheel is a lot safer & faster to use than putting it someplace else.

Ditto to Howards comment. I had dash button horns. Anytime you really need the horn, you also need two hands on the wheel.
