I have the original Hall 701 tail lights on my 1966 CJ5, how do i get to the bulb to replace it? The retainer ring does not appear to be separate from the fixture housing, although it is open at the bottom. Do I have to remove the whole tail light to access the bulb from the rear of the housing?
    Thanks guys!

There should be a spring wire retainer holding the lens in place. Look for about a 3/8" space in the retainer and pry it out with a hook, remove lens, replace lamp, reassemble.

Once you have your light working and re-install the lens, the ring should go back on with the gap at the bottom to let any water be able to run out.

An old motorcycle trick is to put a light coat of dilectric grease on the base of the bulb, ( after cleaning everything well).
It seals the metal parts from moisture and the atmosphere so corrosion can't devellop on the contacts.

    X2.

My brake lights had corrosion out the wazoo the last time I changed the bulbs. Gave them a coating before I put it all back together.
