I've got a m/c from a newer jeep. Would I be able to use that?

Probably. Is it 2 chamber? Are the chambers of equal size? Or is one larger than the other?

Equal size means its from 4 wheel drum brakes. And will require removal of the 10lb residual valve from the chamber leading to the discs. And installation of an inline 2 lb residual valve.

If one chamber is larger, then its already set up for front discs. If you are mounting it to the frame (rather than the firewall) an inline 2lb residual valve is probably a good idea, if not required.

I pulled out the m/c and it looks similar to the one that is currently on my 69 cj. Will this work?

Normally the correct Disc / Drum Master Cylinder will have one large chamber and one smaller next to it........that cylinder looks to be equal and would normally be for a Drum/Drum setup.

I assume you still have the floor mounted pedals and frame mounted master is that correct?.............None of the newer 2 chamber Master cylinders will bolt up to that old Factory frame bracket.........the kits that Herms overdrives and R&P4wheel sell comes with brackets that allow for either MC to fit in that space. Also do you have 10" or 11" drums on the back? The correct Disc / Drum Master will come in either 1" or 1.060 bore.........for the price of a new one on such a critical Item such as brakes I would personally stay away from the wrecking yards and do your homework and get the correct parts.

Correct, I have the floor mounted pedals and the frame minted m/c. Ill have to check out Herms. Budget is tight at the moment...lol

:)I hear you on the budget...........Automotive Engineers spend a lot of time putting the right Brake components together for Safety..............your complete system........the type & size of the new disc's for the front & the existing rear drums size should all be part of the equation when picking the right Master Cylinder............perhaps you may want to hold off on the Disc upgrade until you can source all the correct parts.

I think Kaiser Willys has a complete front disc conversion kit. Master cylinder, rotors, hubs, brackets, whole sheboygan.

I figured ill get all the parts for the brake conversion and do it in the near future. I started swapping the brakes this after noon and so far it's going ok. My first time doing anything like this and so far not too tough.

I have used MC's like that for the swap in the past (disk front, drum rear). You will need to add a per portioning valve to make that work correctly. As long as there is enough volume and pressure to run the disks you should be fine.

I too prefer not to use wrecking yard parts and use Wilwood almost exclusively when I do my swaps, but then I go to swinging pedal setups as well.

Well I just got finished installing the new Dana 27. Ill take it out for a spin tomorrow and see how it performs. On another note my cousin just called me and said that he had a friend that was selling axles that came off of a 73 chevy 4x4. The friend said I could have both axles(gears low) with disck brakes in front and drums in back, wheels, master cylinder and the round thing that goes behind it for $400. Is this a possible swap?

the 73 chevy will most likely be a dana 44 and you will have to shorten them. A wagoneer dana 44 is better suited for shortening because you only have to shorten one side. The round thing is most likely the power booster, which you will need hanging pedals to use. It won't fit under the floor... This would also mean that the master cylinder wouldn't be so good to use, this is due to the bore size if I remember correctly. I can't remember if you want a small bore or large bore master cylinder for manual brakes. (this is something you don't have to worry about typically.) If you have hanging pedals than you could use the booster and master cylinder.

Chevy also typically runs a diffrent lug pattern. I would either use that dana 27 or use the dana 30 you got for disk.
A lot of times members have disk set ups for sale here a decent price or put togeather a kit by yourself.

For the chevy axles would I have to shorten the axle or drive shaft?

I say skip the chevy axles, way too much work to install. install the Dana 30 you have and upgrade your existing 44 as necessary.
