I have a 67 CJ5 that I pulled the 225 and gonna replace it with an 84 3.8 motor. The flywheel on the left is the one off the 225. The one on the right is one of 3 that came with the 231. I know there are balance issues but I'm wondering what the difference is between these 2. Do you think the one on the right could be balanced for a 231?

After searching countless threads I want to give up. This is gonna be a pain in the a**! So much for the turbo motor.

Don't give up. You just need to determine what balance the 231 needs and then take a sample to any competent machine shop. I good shop will know what you need and tell you. We did this a lot with the heavy 225 flywheels when switching to 231s.

Well, you're comparing an odd-fire flywheel, to an even-fire, so it's apples to oranges. One of my guys can balance it out, but I don't know if I can get you into it for less that a couple hundred....

So you're saying the one on the right is for an even fire meaning it will work on the 84 3.8?

Call a few auto machine shops (FLAPS) and see if any of them can re-balance a flywheel. When you find one that can, take your flywheels to them and ask them which one has the correct balance for you year engine.

Unless you have the motor apart to balance the whole assembly, I have found that a simple neutral balance on a flywheel (I have ones from 225s in 231s) works fine.
