Leak down compression results.

    Well i did the leak down test tonight.

    The previous results with the cylidners dry

    Driver Side - 145, 145, 128

    Passenger Side - 130, 124, 105


    Leak down compression results

    Driver Side - 155, 160, 190

    Passenger Side - 155, 145, 180

    Ok what does this mean now??

    It means you need rings.

    NOOOOOOO say it isnt so :(

    Guess i will run it as it is for a while, i still want to find out what the problem is for the misfire, guess it is ignition or timing chain, i will probably check those before i go into the motor. So does the pressure test indicate that i do not have a blown head gasket??

    The oil you put in there got down around the rings and basically sealed them. That tells you the rings are the reason for the low compression readings. Obviously you put enough to raise the compression ratio. :) How much did you put anyway?

    That i wasnt sure about. i put a funnel in the hole and dumped about ... say 4-5 tablespoons i would say. I didnt know for sure, i didnt fill the cylinder up by any means. i wondered if i added to much, i just added what i thought would be required to seal

    I would say you are actually not that far off. You might have used a tad too much oil. Does it use oil, or smoke a bunch? If not, then next is to check the timing chain. They are famous for getiting loose on these engines. Also screws up timing.
    You can try a product I have had decent luck with.... RESTORE. Believe it or not, it works. It will help the rings re-seat a bit.

    It really doesnt seem to smoke that much. alot of it seems to be richness issues because it is black when it does smoke. and it seems to smoke after getting on it and then after it will smoke a bit and go away. And it seems to smoke bad after the jeep rolls over ;)

    I will go for the timing am guessing. Now i have to search for the posts on the timing chains.

    You do need rings... The timing chain just might be compounding the problem. It sounds like you have a carb issue also. Seeing the compression come up that far after adding oil to the cylinders is definately showing a case of worn rings. The misfire could be coming from that cylinder with 105lbs of compression, it might not be firing regularly anymore. It probably isn't. I really don't see the timing chain doing much for you with the bottom end that weak. Put a timing light on it-Does the mark move all over the place or is it steady? If it jumps back and forth a lot, that's a sign of a stretched chain. But I doubt that would cause a misfire on only one side of the engine. When chains get sloppy enough to cause misfires, it's randomly all over the engine, not just one side. I'd look at rebuilding or replacing the carb too, especially if you're getting lots of black smoke. It could have a weak powervalve, leaky needle and seat, worn jets, etc etc.

    The carb is in great shape i havent dialed it in fully. the timing mark does move around for me alot. it has been doing that for a while, always frustrated me. i was thinknig quite possibly the cam maybe has warn lobes. But the motor actaully has good power to it, i have never lamented about power from it.

    Glenn i was going to get that 4.3 chevy V6, but that deal fell through :(
