First Jeep build! Here we go...

I dont plan to cut them completely off, but will be whacking them down to about 1/2 inch above the spring pack...or if i can get away with it, then I will remove the upper bolt and just bend the tabs out of the way, that way they can go on either side of the frame rail when compressed.

 

So any update?

 

nothing so far. I have to get a new fuel tank since mine is shot, replaced my solenoid, installed my front seat belts and will prob end up taking off my rear fender flares and giving them the same treatment as the front. Took it for a small run the other day and everything is doing great except for those spring things that I have to cut off...have not done it yet. Also going to move my front shock mount up about 2 inchs to gain a little more flex also.

 

I like it! What did you use to cut them? I used a grinder with a cutting wheel and then finished off the edges with a sanding disk.

 

I used a jig saw with a fine metal blade and then I used a grinding stone (my flap disk was not with me) to smooth it out a little bit then buttoned it up with some 1/4 inch fuel line.

 

As said...projects are never really done are they??? Anyways, received my new fuel tank and hoses today and will be putting them in within the next week or so and have a couple questions. My stock fuel gauge has never worked but I would like to get it working if possible so....is there anything that usually happens to these that makes them go out? Also, if I can not fix it after checking all wiring and connections then I will just get a universal fuel gauge from autozone or somewhere and run that. Anyone with experience with these? And last question...for now: I would like to vent my fuel tank somewhere besides the cap..like maybe up into my rollcage. Any pictures or ideas?

 

the gauges are finicky as far as grounds go (in the speedo,at the dash,and tank) the stock sender wont run an aftermarket gauge

 

I had to ground the sending unit to get mine working.

 

Your gauge ohms range must match your sending units ohm range. Check some out on Summit Racing's site and you'll se what I'm talking about. I had my tank fabbed by Boyd Welding in FL. They had several ohm rarings for the sender. I then matched what I had from them with a gauge from Summit.



I had two bungs welded in the top of the tank. One for a fuel return line the other for a vent line. I used a rollover vent screwed into the top of the tank with a line that exits the tub and runs along the inside of the rear fender and drops in behind a piece of hat channel.

Awesome guys thank you. My wiring looks like crap so I will be running all new fuel line ànd new wires from gauge to sender. I prefer to use the original... Just cooler that way and thanks for the pic and link posi.

 

I also need to start fabbing up a fuel tank skid plate but cant not seem to find anything on here. Does anyone have a picture of what they built for theirs and the dimentions??? Want to build somthing strong enough to withstand the jeep bouncing off a rock or two...nothing flimsey
