headlamp upgrade suggestions please

Am going to install the headlight relay upgrade this weekend, and would like to upgrade the lamps at the same time. Does anyone have a headlamp conversion (brand, bulb type, etc.) they have used and would recommend (or not recommend)? Thanks.

 

Sylvania SilverStar. They are a plug in solution and much brighter then stock.

 

I have been thinking of doing a headlight upgrade myself. Here is what I found:

The HID conversion can get pricey. Also you can do an H4 conversion. Which is the sealed 7” round sealed beam replacement lens that you can install the newer style bulbs. I do not know if the bulbs are any brighter than the Sylvania headlights mentioned above. The HID conversion gives you brighter lights with less power usage. Check out coolbulbs.com lots of good info. I have not ordered anything yet I was hoping Santa Claus would bring me a little something. I have sent some questions to “Andrew”. He “will not recommend what kit to buy for your make and model, but I will return and exchange any wrong item ordered”. There also seems to be a legality issue with installing HID lights as an aftermarket item, but it is illegal to modify your suspension in Colorado also.

I grew up in Laurel, Go Locomotives (The only worse mascot I have heard of is the Sandia Hilltoppers, lederhosen and knee socks)

 

How much do you want to spend?

The plug-in replacements are likely the most bang for the buck.

I like the Cibie H4 lights. I've had those in the past and would use them again. Hella makes a similar replacement headlight. Use a relay with these, inline with the headlight wires and activated by the headlight switch. Try Daniel Stern lighting.

 

I second the silverstars. I run them on my f150, my civic, and I finally replaced the ones on the CJ and they made a big difference. Even going with a relay you will see a difference in brightness. Between both these upgrades, I am happy. Before I started I had the dim 70's yellow light, now it is bright and white and outshines most other vehicles.

I have a set of Hummer H2 Lenses in mine which effectively coverts to the new style bulbs. The lenses are clear and seem to be much brighter than the sealed type units you get at the parts store.

Cost wise I have no idea. One of my friends is a Hummer tech and he got 'em for me.

 

Are the sylvania silverstars available in auto parts stores?

 

Should be. Most places carry the Sylvania brand...might even find them at Wal-Mart.

 

here is calif, on craigslist there must be 20 differtent sellers for the HID conversions , I found a guy that will bring them to me and install them , a plug and play set up for $125 guarrented , you can pick what voltage you want. I already have H4 lights 55/60?. I'm going H4 conversion , 5000k(nice white light ) hi/low .this set up has lasted 3 years in my buddys rock toyota,you also get the benifit of not using so much power, ,,,,,,,if buzzkillcj6 is around he might will tell you they might be/are illeagle,,,, you would have to check in your area

 

I have had the HELLA lights for 15 yaers and just put new bulbs in this year. The nice part about these is you can order different wattage bulbs. I chose the 55w low beam and 100w high beam and they are BRIGHT. Make sure you dont run these through your headlight switch without a relay( you say you already have one so you will be fine.)...
