One of my mid-term projects I want to complete on my Jeep is to get a functioning parking brake. I have the drum mounted on the drive shaft, behind the transfer, but no cable or handle. I found this on eBay:

The guy selling it doesn't know what it is, and I'm not sure what it is, or what I need. Will that get me any closer? It is pretty cheap right now. (Please don't bid it up)

    Thanks,
    Doug

Standard parking brake handle is what it looks like to me.

    I bid on it

I am the winning bidder on it now. Is the cable all that I need now? Is the emergency brake as straightforward as it looks? Hook the cable to the arm that sticks out of the brake itself straight to the handle, and I imagine the handle can adjust the tension on the cable? Since I have a replacemnt fiberglass tub, I imagine I have to drill a hole in the tub for the cable. Can I just eyeball it?

    Thanks,
    Doug

(I never really thought about a parking brake before until I noticed I didnt have one, good thing I live where it is mostly flat)

looks like it to me. as to the hole(s) depends on where you mount it. traditionally this tyoe of handle goes between the seats. you might need mounting brackets as well.

Looks like a commercial type parking brake handle like off of a forklift. The end part of the handle turns to help adjust slack in the parking cable. Good luck.

That parking brake handle is common to vehicles other than just forklifts. Willys used 'em in the pickups and wagons if I'm not mistaken.

This is not a standard CJ5 handle.

I have one of these in my parts bins. I fooled around with it and did not find a good way to mount/connect it, so it just sits.

In order to use this you'll need some sort of mounting bracket; I'm not sure what that looks like, but whatever it looks like, you don't have one on your civilian jeep.

This part may have come from an M38A1.

I think that this style brake lever, mounted between the seats would be superior to what Jeep provided as stock on the CJ5 if you could find the missing bracket/mount.
