Is there an open knuckle front axle that would be a good swap for my 1960 CJ5?
I want to improve my steering starting with the axle.

    mb82 I feel great!

CJ dana 30 is a good one. No major mods needed, just a little work in the master cylinder and some work on your springplates.

What needs to be done to the spring plates? Master cylinder for a D30?

My spring plates had to be drilled out a little.

MC just needs to have the residual pressure valve removed for the front if disk brakes are being used( I made that assumption)

The dana 30 tubes are larger in diameter than the dana 25/27. The stock plates can be drilled but it makes them thin on the sides and the holes will not match exact due to different centerlines for the u-bolts. I simply made new spring plates when I did my swap, I made several other sets at the time and sold them to guys on the board that were swapping in the dana 30, don't remember who.

Thanks. If I were to go to a salvage yard what years would be good candidates?
