well i got it from the man in Denver and it does have some rust in the floors as well as the rear corners.
the right front fender has been damaged in the past and was patched and welded in a not very professional manner.
it starts right up but it has a pronounced ticking coming from the top of the engine.
the head lights and tail lights work but nothing happens when i depress the brake pedal or when i activate the right turn signal.

the wiring is a rats nest so i will follow each wire and see where it goes and replace as i go.
i have buddies that own and love to work on Willy's
but so i don't abuse their friendship i decided to hire one of them to come over and adjust the valves as well as the timing ,pressure test , etc.
while i watch so i can learn how to do it myself.
i am going to change every fluid and make some knuckle pudding.
and take everything apart and lube it.
i also have a metal fabricator lady Friend* that is more than willing to help me fix the rust issues.

all told this has cost me $1650 to buy it and have it shipped 350 miles to my
    house.

i dont know if this was a wise purchase or not but it was an emotional buy.
i have wanted one of these since i was about 5 years old.:)

well thats where i am right now.
    any advice is sorely needed.
    thanks for reading.

should i use sea foam on this thing?
i am worried about loosening decades of goop and having it cause something terrible.

Yup, the tranny photo is definitely a T-98.

Axle ratios should be 5.38, Dana 25 front, Dana 44 rear, Spicer 18 T-case, 134-cube Hurricane F-head engine, etc. Members here should be plenty of help.

Why Seafoam? Had it been sitting for a long time? Go ahead and do it if you think it needs it. Once you get it running much of what the Seafoam would free up would most likely get dislodged anyway.

so is all that stuff you listed desirable?

as far as the seafoam treatment .
all i know is the previous owner had it sitting for one year.
thats as far back as i can trace it.

T98 is very desirable cause of the low first gear

Desirable in that it's standard fare for early Jeep stuff. It doesn't appear that any funky components have been hacked-in over the years. Other than your T-98 4-speed (which is a real score, by the way) it looks like a run-of-the-mill early CJ-5.

Oh I would skip the seafoam

X2. A year isn't that long. Just change the fluids (conventional 15W-40 diesel oil in the engine and 90W in the tranny, T-case, and axles) and give it a tune-up.

it's got a pronounced tapping noise coming from the top of the engine.
my willys nut buddy is coming over to adjust anything that needs adjusting and tuner her up while i watch so's i can learn how to do timing etc.
then i will drain and lube everything.
fix the tail lights and go for a spin.

Conventional auto oils got neutered. They lowered the Zinc and phosphorous levels the oils used to contain to meet stricter emissions standards on newer cars and trucks. Bottom line is they don't protect flat-tappet valvetrains as well as the older blends did.

It's sort of like when they took the lead out of gasoline.

Unless it's CJ-4 spec diesel oil, most 15W-40 diesel oils like Shell Rotella, etc still contain the higher zinc and phosphate levels 'cause the diesels aren't hindered by emissions testing. The diesels with particulate filters and high-zoot emissions b.s. need to run the CJ-4 spec, which has lower levels of zinc and phosphate and some other hooey that is supposed to produce less DPF-clogging soot.
