Just like the title says. Do they make a Polyurethane mount for the Dana 18?? I would like to go poly because the soaking oil really kills rubber ;) Or is there a differnt poly mount that you had luck with??

    Thanks!!!

I got a replacement mount from Novak. It's rubber. I've developed an intense dislike for poly. It's squeeky. Besides, what soaking oil? That thing shouldn't leak a drop when you're finished with it.

yeah i guess i shouldnt be leaking oil if i fixed it ;)

  4. Dan: I saw Poly trans mounts in Qtech I think. I talked to Jim (jpflat2a) about them (I bought a spare NOS from him) and he had the same thought that I had about them. There much stiffer than the rubber mounts. Not always a "good thing". This is the main trans mount on the X member.

Or are you talking about the "torque mount" on the side of the D18 to the X member? You might just put a "poly" donut there. Is all it seems to be is one of the rubber body mounts.

  6. Dan: Oops. You replied too soon before I edited it.

Yea, I think a poly donut would work fine there. Just done tighten it down as much as you would a rubber one.

I have used the generic poly trans mount, (2) of them with a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" angle (or so) between the two as a torque bar, about a foot long. This on a '78 CJ5.

I have fixed the oil leak around the output shim pack by adding a layer of RTV around the outside of the pack after tightening it together, I have about 20k miles on the tcase and no leaking. Don't pput the RTV between the shims just around the outside.
